Phone not ringing
Quote from Mike Lacey on July 7, 2010, 7:54 pmWhat's the longest stretch you have gone without the phone ringing?
Mine is going on two weeks.

Quote from Gregg Bothell on July 7, 2010, 8:10 pmNever really paid attention, but the new orders were few and far between during this past winter. Probably about three over a stretch of two months.
It really took off this spring but has since slowed to a crawl. The talking heads are saying that a double dip recession is possible, so consumer confidence has once again gone down the tubes.

as is my fax and email... but, I'm only getting maybe 5% of what I quote.
I recently quoted a 50-lot subd (Phase II), with extras, such as topo of an erosion channel, checking control in Phase I, verify boundary of Phase II, as-built of Phase I, etc.
I am a solo op, and submitted what I thought was a very competitive proposal. Client told me the next highest proposal (he got 5 proposals) was less than 1/2 of mine...
He didn't even offer me the opportunity to revise it (which I couldn't/wouldn't)
So someone out there is literally paying the Client to work 😐

I had to get rid of all my employees, had zero work for months. Then my phone started ringing off the hook. I couldn't keep up solo and couldn't find any help so I had to turn work away.
Now I have no work again, people are now wanting me to hire them and the phone isn't ringing again.
If the events of the last 10 months could have synchronized a little better, I'd be doing pretty good right now. But that is asking WAY TO MUCH of life. 😐

Things have slowed, but, we are doing OK. Sort of nice to get a chance to do the little things you put off until you run out of URGENT stuff.

Quote from Steve Corley on July 8, 2010, 1:16 amMy phone did not ring for 2 days week before last. On Wednesday about noon of that week, my boss walked into my cubicle and told me my phone was not working. It had been out for 2 days and I enjoyed every one of them. The people that needed to talk to me sent e-mails and I replied with e-mail or called them. I could call out, but could not receive calls.:-)
