Lloyd Savage, PLS of Sublimity, Oregon
Quote from Norman_Oklahoma on September 19, 2023, 1:00 pmOne of my mentors, Lloyd Savage, has passed away. Lloyd was a long time survey manager at David Evans & Associates, the biggest outfit in these parts, and later at Otak, Inc. and ODOT. He retired about 10 or 12 years ago without any fanfare and dropped out of site.
Lloyd never talked about his past much. He did drop that he had been a City of Salem, Oregon police officer at one time before switching careers over to the city survey crew. I'm not sure of the origin of the "Cpt." below - he never mentioned any military service. That is how he was.
In Loving Memory of Lloyd Savage
1946 - 2023
Cpt. Lloyd Branch Savage, Jr. PLS, 77, of Sublimity, OR, passed away on September 4, 2023, surrounded by his loved ones. Lloyd was born on June 9, 1946, and was known for his love of pets, particularly his dogs, whom he treated as family. He had a deep passion for water-related activities, from deep-sea fishing to sailing.
Cpt. Lloyd is survived by his devoted wife Sue, his sister Michiele, and his six children: Amber, Gael, Tad, Nancy, Matt, and John the Moose.
Cpt. Lloyd attended Stayton Union High School, where he laid the foundation for his future achievements. He further pursued his education at Oregon State University, where he played the trombone in the band and received his letter for his performance at the Rose Bowl.
In his professional life, Lloyd made significant contributions as a Land Surveyor, working on various noteworthy projects. He played a vital role in the development of the Light Rail system, the Banfield Highway, and the reconstruction of St. Helens Road system after it erupted in 1980. His dedication and expertise left a lasting impact on the communities he served.
Cpt. Lloyd recently found solace in his faith, embracing Christianity and undergoing baptism. He worshiped at the Church on the Hill, finding salvation and peace in his spiritual journey.
Honoring Cpt. Lloyd's wishes, a private cremation ceremony will be held, and his ashes will be scattered into the Pacific Ocean, where he spent countless hours sailing and fishing. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that contributions be made to the SPCA.
Cpt. Lloyd Branch Savage Jr. will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His memory will forever be cherished, and his legacy will continue to inspire those whose lives he touched...

Quote from Wendell on September 19, 2023, 5:40 pmLloyd was the guy that hired me at ODOT many years ago. He tried real hard to groom me for his position so he could retire. I could only tolerate ODOT for about 6 months before I left. But that's a story for another time.
Lloyd was a super cool guy and I really enjoyed working with him.

Quote from Hama75 on September 28, 2023, 2:39 pmLloyd was a great guy, I had good times with him sailing on the Columbia River. Back in the day, he helped me transition from the field to the office. One of the best things I ever did. Without his help, I don’t think it would have happened. He was a very good department leader. Thank you, Norman, for the very informative obituary.

Quote from ColdAndHungry on July 10, 2024, 5:10 pmLloyd was my father. The "Cpt." is a little inside joke my brother slipped in there... A reference to his passion for sailing and fishing offshore, he didn't serve in the military. He definitely got us into, and out of, some dicey situations at sea though. Something only an overly confident, yet competent, captain could do.
Its unfortunate he passed just before i was offered a position at Odot in the Remote Sensing group. I'm sure in his own way he'd say he's proud while simultaneously decrying my decision to be a public employee. 🤣

Quote from gene-kooper on July 11, 2024, 9:45 amMy sincere condolences on the passing of your father. My father passed a little over a year ago and not a day goes by that I don't think of him. I'm sure it is the same for you and your brothers and sisters.
