I've rebranded the free newsletter (which, by the way, was it's official name, LOL) to The Cut Sheet. I bounced around a bunch of naming ideas, most of which were used by others in some way or another, and I didn't want to step on any toes. So I started thinking about reports of any kind that were used in surveying back when I was practicing. To an outsider, The Cut Sheet may have interesting connotations, but to us -- well, we know that it contains critical information from us that a super needs to build a project. And here we are, building and improving SurveyorConnect. 🙂

The Cut Sheet will go out every Friday morning?ÿ(there may be a few exceptions, such as holidays). In fact, the first issue went out on Friday, September 10, 2021. For the first issue, I kept it relatively simple -- a brief introduction and clippings (get it?) of some of the popular topics in our forums for that week. I plan to improve it as we move forward by adding links to useful third-party surveying news?ÿ(when available/applicable). I wanted to start off simple and let it snowball into something that surveyors everywhere can enjoy.

I've also added a sponsorship section to see if we can bring in a few advertising dollars to help keep SurveyorConnect online and running smoothly.

Just bringing this to the top so I could point out that issue #3 went out early early this morning. 🙂

I focused the third issue on getting your feedback thus far -- even though we are just getting started. I want to see if I'm going in the right direction.

So far, the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. Most folks that respond are saying that they appreciate the weekly newsletter because they just don't have time to keep checking the site all the time. So the newsletter dishes it directly to them so they can see what's been going on for the week. Funny thing, that's exactly why I started it back up!

I do think it has the potential to get even better. I do comb through surveying news elsewhere each Thursday night to see if there's anything that might be interesting to share. I'm hoping to streamline that process a bit though.

What would you like to see in The Cut Sheet? Do you have any ideas about what you'd like to see included?

Sure, we are overdue to have a cartoon showing Paden hanging by his heels from a gate with his head about two inches off the ground. And Darrell/Daryl/Deral Moistner parachuting out of a helicopter with 800 lbs of gear but no way to transport it. Maybe one of FL/GA swimming laps in the pool mounted atop his stretch limo. Then there's Nate telling the magic gizmo salesman to hold on a bit until this ol' girl (his milk cow) gives him another gallon of moo juice. Oh, yeah, can't leave out Radar doing a full blown imitation of Corporal O'Reilly handling a messy situation. Dreaming up a series of those would be a fun challenge for you.

I have a huge spreadsheet of comic ideas but I never seem to have a big enough chunk of time to draw any of them. ????

Thank you. Great creativity. The visualization of a pincushion corner reminds me of a day when I would have been four or five years old. My sister came home from school and told our mother that "Janie Wright was on my back all day long". I assumed they had been playing "horse" with Janie being the rider and sister being the horse.
