I hate to say it, but I don't see anything positive in our economy. If anything, it is getting worse for working people. Sure, the slight rise in the GNP happened, but the only people that has helped is the corporations. They haven't hired anyone or increased production for the most part. What they have done is cut costs and that is spelled LABOR.
I would stay away from government employment unless you are looking at it as nothing more than a temporary job. The stimulus spending is just about over, or at least its effect on labor supply is over, and State and local governments are all on the verge of bankruptcy. My sage advice for people under 45 who are out of work is to jump ship and try to get into something else. Unfortunately I am not sure what that something else is. Possibly something in medical technology exclusive of nursing and related occupations. The latter occupations now have far more applicants than there are jobs.
