He can now be at peace.
He was definitely one of the most interesting people to participate here with us through the years.?ÿ He has already been missed.
Hope his family and friends learn what an impact he had on us, his peers (mostly) from the top side of the globe.
Rest in peace RADU. I met Richard in Salt Lake City in 2009 at the ACSM, et al. conference. We were both speakers and of course attended each others talks. I am certain that I got a lot more from RADU's talk than he did trying to figure the "bleeding edge nuances" of mineral surveys.
I will miss RADU, but not his Vegemite (sp). For me that stuff is far beyond an acquired taste.
@andy-j Thanks for reminding me about one of his survey idioms.
Well shit.?ÿ?ÿ
May his family take solace that he is now at peace.?ÿ He was definitely a top notch surveyor who had the gift of sharing his knowledge without being an overbearing SOB.?ÿ May we all strive to be half as good as he was.
What Andy said. I so enjoyed taking RADU on a tour of Tucson and showing him the cactus.
He was such a joy when he came to Tucson and visited all of us!!! I loved his accent. ??
@mike-berry?ÿ ?ÿmike, I forgot about the balls...?ÿ ?ÿI seem to remember I had one of those at one time.?ÿ ?ÿIf you can fill in the blanks, I'd love to see it.
I truly believe that RADU did more for unifying surveyors throughout the US than any other I've known.?ÿ His epic walkabouts introduced us to each other in unforgettable ways.?ÿ I'm so grateful that I had the opportunity to meet with him, dine with him, and host him in my home while he was on tour.?ÿ What a kind, passionate, and generous soul.?ÿ He will be sorely missed.?ÿ May his legacy continue.
RIP RADU?ÿ?ÿ

Blanks regarding the soccer balls? That was a fund raiser that Derel Paulk (AKA Trimble Man and Derel From Lawton) launched for the sake of his fellow Oklahoma PLS, the late Michael Porter. If I recall correctly, somewhere around $40,000 (or was it $70,000?) was raised by surveyors around the globe.
@mike-berry?ÿ ?ÿI thought it was tied to that, but wasn't sure.?ÿ ?ÿThanks for the reminder and the pics!
@jbstahl?ÿ ?ÿThat was a great time, thank you for hosting that house of crazy surveyors!?ÿ ?ÿDarryl M,?ÿ his lovely wife and I met up many times after that as my mom lived in Portland.

Vegemite for everyone!

My recollection is that Michael Porter was the originator of the RPLS message board which morphed in to the POB message board which was the primary source of attendees at the Stahl party of 19 February 2009.
Sorry, Rich, you are thinking of Mark Deal, a different Oklahoman.
Michael Porter was a co-worker of Deral Paulk for the City of Lawton, OK.
Both are now deceased.?ÿ Much too young in both cases.
