I found out that a young RPLS passed away yesterday. He was a coworker and he was on the first team I joined when I came to SAM. I didn't know him much outside of work but I respected him and he was a kind soul.
I was floored and am still in shock that this has happened. It still doesn't feel real.
Apparently he fell in his shower and hit his head. They took him to the ICU and during the testing checked him for brain activity. They found none. The ICU waited 24 hours while he was on life support, then checked again for brain activity, again finding none. He was taken off life support yesterday afternoon. He leaves behind two teenage children and his parents.

@Squirltech?ÿ What SAM office did he work out of and when did he start at SAM? The name rings a bell, but I don't think it was during my time at SAM 2014 through 2018 when I retired from full-time practice and started part-time consulting.
Anyway, my most sincere condolences to his family.

Levi was here when I started in 2004 but left around 2012. He returned for a short time but that was late in 2018. Levi was part of the Austin office.

I just found his address yesterday in the Caldwell County appraisal district.?ÿ His place is about 8 miles from mine, east of Lockhart.?ÿ I was planning on going by his place soon.?ÿ I almost bought the 3 acre tract directly across from his place about 3 years ago.

Charles Lockhart was one time at least, the Gonzales County Surveyor, next county to the south of me.

I moved here from Hays County, TX, named after John Coffee " Jack" Hays.?ÿ He was a surveyor also, and a military officer and Texas Ranger.?ÿ His Indian name was "Bravo Too Much" because he would charge first into battle.?ÿ He followed the Gold Rush to CA in 1849 and became sheriff of San Franciso in 1850. In 1853 he was appointed Surveyor General of California.

In Hays County, I lived a couple of miles from the William Barrett Travis League grant, given to his heirs since he died at the Alamo.?ÿ I have a copy of his Spanish Land Grant deed somewhere.
I am eat up with this history stuff.
Loving history is a natural thing for land surveyors.

I've never been religious but I have grown up in a small logging community that has seen our share of tragity. It takes ball to work in these hills and everyone knows going in that you aren't guaranteed tomorrow. We might drink a little more than average in Oregon but we produce a hell of a lot to back it up.
