I received this today regarding the passing of David White last month. David served OSLS as Sec/Treas. while I served as Area Director, Vice President, Pres.-Elect and resigned to pursue his Tulsa Auxiliary Police interests and Marc Cheves took over as Sec/Treas of OSLS during my term as President. Lots of great memories of David White during the Oklahoma part of my surveying career, he was successful in most everything he did during his time here on planet earth with the rest of us and those who passed before him. He will be dearly missed by his many friends and especially his family. RIP David White.

From OSLS Executive Director, Burk Cornelius:

It is with great sadness that we must report the passing of another charter member and Past-President of OSLS.

David Clay White passed away peacefully at his home on January 18, 2023.

David was born on April 29, 1937 to Lorraine and Kirk White in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was a charter member of the Tulsa Boy Singers from elementary school through his years at Tulsa Will Rogers High School. He shot skeet competitively from the ages of twelve to eighteen, setting several world records. After graduating from high school in 1955, he entered the University of Tulsa where he earned his Mechanical Engineering degree in 1961. He went on to earn his license as a Professional Engineer in 1968.

In 1958, David married JoAnn Hatchett and they had four children: John, Lori, Tammi, and Wendi.

David was owner and CEO of White Surveying Company, which was founded by his father in the late 1930s, and has provided land surveying services throughout northeast Oklahoma continuously since then.

David was a charter member and served as president of the Oklahoma Society of Land Surveyors from 1974 to 1975. He served three years as the director of the American Congress on Surveying and Mapping. In 2015, David was awarded the David Page Distinguished Service Award from the Oklahoma Society of Land Surveyors for his service and dedication to the profession of surveying.

He served on the City of Tulsa Board of Adjustment for twenty-two years, receiving a proclamation from City Council in recognition of his civil service. David was a member of the Tulsa Auxiliary Police, serving five years as director, and the Tulsa Police Reserve for twenty years. He served on the board of the Tulsa Garden Center and volunteered in many capacities with his wife, JoAnn.

He enjoyed many hobbies with family and friends, including shooting sports, camping, skiing and power boating, sailing, and scuba diving. He was an accomplished pilot, a prolific reader, and enjoyed traveling to historic landmarks.

David is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, JoAnn; children John White (Trina Olsen), Lori Wilbins (Mike), Tammi Miller (Steve), Wendi White (Bart Lauwers); 9 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

To honor Davidƒ??s wishes, there will be no memorial service. We invite you to privately celebrate Davidƒ??s memory in your own way.
