Well today I completed my first project as a Remote Pilot (non-survey related project). The client needs to have the old crane removed from a pier in the Tennessee River. However an Osprey has made a nest on the boom. Prior to removal the KY Fish and Wildlife needs proof that there are no eggs or chick-lings in the nest.?ÿ Well I flew over the nest, snapped some photos and boxed it up.?ÿ
Easy day in the office.?ÿ
There was an osprey nest on a crane at Yellow Creek Port on Pickwick Lake. Last time I was there it had been moved.
The Osprey have a construction background, apparently.
They use the same nest every year and build it up each time. This one however will be gone when she returns this spring.?ÿ
One time I was up there and one of those long-legged birds, I think a giant whooping crane, was minding his own business wading in the shoals hunting breakfast.?ÿ For some reason, the osprey took offense to him, and what followed sounded like bloody murder. The crane survived the attack, but you couldn't have told it from his screaming.?ÿ
That nest is gone, too, they had to move the crane.?ÿ The metal crane, that is.?ÿ
