We’ll leave it to me to enjoy two different jobs where the pesky yellow jackets rule. Out on the farm mowing some pastures and well. In the worst possible spot to get hit I found those pesky critters. I was hit today about as bad as one can. The top of my head where they got in and I couldn’t get them out. In my beard on my face. As I let foul language out as I was trying to navy’s ditch and get out of dodge while trying to smash as many as possible a few took the opportunity to enter. Now my lips are swole up and I feel like I have been in a bar room brawl. My head aches and itches my back legs and other unspeakable places as I was wearing shorts. My lovely dog was looking at me across the pasture as I cleared the hill with head tilted sideways and a look of wow this is what nut I live with surveying and farming I have surely ran into these buggers Today was not fun but with rain coming I just kept mowing until my lil swole so much I could not keep my snuff in no more and one nostril swollen shut where one got me there fun in the sun I reckon.
Man, if I was hit that hard I'd be at urgent care for some super strength benadryl!
Edit. My wife would have me at urgent care.
I usually don’t have any side effects but a little swelling or itching. But I can feel my heartbeat on my scalp and my lip. When I got home my wife got me some of that Benadryl as she saw how swollen my lip was and nose side of my face. Now I have a full beard and she could see that. She is watching me a bit just encase things go south.
I can tell you it is not easy trying to eat spaghetti with a swollen upper lip LOL. I need a bib. Haha.
Sympathy! I bushhog around my place, and usually disturb a nest of ground yellowjackets. It’s hard to maintain control of a tractor, shift gears, disengage the PTO, not run into a ditch, and hang on while going fast across a bumpy pasture, trying to outrun the little stinging demons. 🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝
So true. I always hope no one is videotaping me because I know it has to be an interesting dance I am doing for sure.
My sympathies, Brother.
I've been stung up badly by yellow-jackets one time.
Super painful and the poisons left lurking in your body make you feel beat up for days 🙁
As a new instrument man I was working on a two man crew on a boundary in the woods, yes after a night of bar hopping. Well, I had to take a "dump". I did not make it back to the truck, found a tree and proceeded to settle in. OMG wouldn't you know it, I squatted right over a yellow jacket nest in the ground. Ended up running through the woods, pants at my ankles, swatting bees and trying' to wipe with my t-shirt! About 30 mi uses past and my party chief comes across the radio, "Uhmmm, are you OK buck?"
Only got stung once, worked the rest of the day with no shirt.
Man you never know where they will be for sure. You it was you who started all the “streaking “ business back in the day. Lol
Doing test pits for septic systems, the engineers (and backhoe operators) sometimes get into a nest. My brother worked painting houses for a while. Yellow jackets and other species of wasps were a hazard with nests under siding, etc.
Yeah they can get you for sure. I was home all day yesterday with ice pack on my lips as they were so swollen I could barely eat. I have been hit a lot but this was the worst. I just couldn’t get away. Usually surveying I just stop and take a few hits and walk out calmly then swat the ones who have stung me.
This whole incident has made me realize why I am not into drugs. I am taken Benadryl and I cannot stand the way it makes me feel. I feel like my mind is in some tunnel or something. I hardly ever take pain meds or anything because I can’t stand the way it makes me feel and such. But my head itches lip is still all tingly lol. Hopefully this is the last day as itching is a sign of healing they say.
Beekeeping 😉
LOL. I actually am planning on that having some bees when we build our new house on the farm. But yellow jackets no way lol.
