We use "differential girdle springs" all the time in construction. Especially in sinkhole prone areas.

I remmember that! Even as a ten year old I twigged it was April 1st., but it was amazing how many "grown ups" were fooled.

We sometimes get to survey spaghetti farms.  The definition includes tracts that are several times longer than they are wide.  Thus the only likely food crop one could grow on such a long, skinny tract is spaghetti.
