I have almost always charged my own oil on my trucks. I bought a new truck last year and decided I was tired of laying on the ground changing oil and doing routine maintenance. So first several oil changes I went to the dealership. Today my patience ran out. Even with a schedule time I have no time to wait 2 to 4 hrs sitting around for a simple oil change. ?ÿNot to mention listing to workers speak to ladies and others as if they were idiots. ?ÿToday I arrived early for my appointment right after dropping the daughter off to school. An elderly lady was meeting with the person at one desk and the person was talking to her like she was a moron. I mean no respect at all. All the lady needed was windshield wiper blades replaced and fluid topped off per her receipt from the previous day when she had it serviced. ?ÿThe blades were bad i mean bad i saw it hanging from inside the building. She was upset as she stated she had set their 4 hours yesterday getting oil change and supposedly getting windshield wiper fluid and wiper??s and some more things done. The guy told her she needed to schedule an appointment or leave the car till tomorrow. I was about to come unglued honestly. But held my composure. ?ÿI was asked from my representative what I needed. I said oil change and air filter as well. She said it will be a few hours. ?ÿI said I have an appointment. She said it will still be a few hours. I said why. Her manager came over and started to explain what all technicians had to do in order to change the oil and thats why it takes a couple hours. He was trying to sound educated about special tools training etc. ?ÿI looked at him and said sir They only need 8 quarts of oil. Fl 820-s filter and a 13mm wrench. The truck is warm so it will drain pretty fast. He said it takes time blah blah blah. ?ÿNeedless to say I canceled my appointment headed towards the house and stopped by my family owned parts store and just got everything I needed. Came home changed clothes changed oil and filter and air filter. Got re dressed and off to the field. What in the ever loving world has happened to people that they treat people like dummies. And it was very apparent that the so called manager had never changed oil on a vehicle in his life. Or he was the biggest liar in the world. Now i was so mad I could spit nails. One for the way they treated the lady. And two speaking BS to me as if a darn farm truck sitting in the bay has a owner that has no clue of what to do. I offered to the lady to swap her blades for her if they would give them to her. She got her money refunded and said her husband could do it. She thanked me as we both exited the building. Customer service has flex I guess.?ÿ
What in the ever loving world has happened to people
@dougie Something has happened for sure. I have had bad customer services in the past but it seems now that almost every where you go people are just mean and disrespectful to others.
What do you expect? Locally, we have a plumbing store. Some yrs ago, this sophisticated woman walked into the store, with some plumbing parts. The LADY to help her,?ÿ was the wife of the hardware store owner. MS sophisticated, said, "I don't understand all this male female stuff". Owners wife said "Male goes like this, (hand gesture) and female goes like this (hand gesture), and they go together like this, putting her hands together. The owners wife's son was around 10 yrs old, and looking up, and watching. MS sophisticated turned red, and stomped out of the store. Never to return. Owners son (Now grown) related the story.
Fer crying out loud, are we so far down the tubes, that we cannot use common expressions, and fix stuff? Do we need a college education, to comb our hair these days? Maybe that explains some of the hairdoos!

@nate-the-surveyor Now that was funny. But so sad if true. I have noticed a decline in problem solving. I don??t blame college education on it but a lack of just hands on troubleshooting these days. I don??t know how many contraptions I tried putting together as a kid before I finally had my first go cart built from old lawnmower parts and whatever else I could find laying around. ?ÿWhat we need is to stop by subdivisions and drop off a truck load of random parts and scraps. And tell the parents to take smart phones and internet devices away and send the kids to play with the junk. Even if they don??t make something productive they will have to use that part of the brain that is not used when information is just fed to you. But all of that doesn??t fix just being disrespectful to people. Sure I can be an a hole. If i get pushed. But to treat an lady or anyone else with such disrespect language is unacceptable in my book. I had to tell myself the drive back home that I did the right thing and walked away because I truly just wanted to walk over and knock the fire out of the guy. But physical striking someone these days could be disastrous. ?ÿLol
Much of it has to do with how anyone is raised in their own home as a child.?ÿ Allowing children to be creative and seeing the results of their own efforts is essential.?ÿ We may laugh about righty-tighty-lefty-loosy but to someone that has never held a wrench of any kind and attempted to loosen or tighten a nut it is a challenge.?ÿ I recall breaking a tire lug because I was using a cheater on the wrench but had no idea it was a left-handed nut.
Expose your children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren to real world problems as often as possible.?ÿ The public school system that now starts taking in children as young as three cannot replace everything that parents should be doing to help their children learn how to function.
But so sad if true
It's a true story, as I remember it, and as it was related to me.
Some cars, when you change the oil, you are supposed to also RESET the OIL change alert monitor, which usually only works off the odometer, but some cars also monitor the color, or some character of the oil. Resetting these can confuse a farmer. Most teenagers can google it, and after jumping around, can reset it.

@holy-cow oh that righty tighty lefty ??. Little ditty still is in my head. ?ÿI agree with school is not supposed to teach everything. We as parents need to do our part as well. ?ÿI am all about letting my kidos play with tools and parts that are left over. My 7 year old played around with an old ceiling fan for weeks before i could take it off to the dump. Now I didn??t let her hook it up to electricity but she used it as a pully system with a old rope and who knows what else. But i let her at it. I said take it a part put it together whatever you want. We need a lot of that type of adventure today. We have become so far removed from manual pulleys and gears that a person could visually see what was happening to all this time encased and computer software driven components that we have detached ourselves from it.
@nate-the-surveyor well I figured it out and reset the oil monitor. But I will not lie there are times when i ask my daughter how to do something on my phone lol. But I do still do a little dip my finger in the oil give it a good look as it drains and smell it. I think next time though I will pay my 11 year old to do it or the 7 year old. I will have to get the oil plug loose a bit and filter but they can do it. I have an old 1978 f350 i need to restore old flatbed. Just need a shop and spend some good daddy daughter time rebuilding the motor sanding the body down. Etc. ?ÿlots of quality time before the boys become a priority for them. Lol.
They have you by the sack with warranties.?ÿ You're forbidden to work on your own vehicle anymore or they'll void it.?ÿ So you take it to the dealer for an oil change and they explain how they don't have the manpower they used to and it'll take several hours.?ÿ Then they rush through it and don't even lube your chassis just to get it out the door because they have 25 fuming customers in the waiting room.?ÿ ?ÿ
@jflamm well I didn??t know changing you own oil would void a warranty. ?ÿI need to look into that. On my old truck i had a 3 ring binder I kept up with everything and receipts even changing a head light bulb to wiper blades in. The new owner had no clue i had kept up with the old girl for so long. ?ÿI was going to get a new binder for the new truck but they tell me they have an app for that now. So I will have my daughter get the thing loaded on my phone when she gets home from school today lol. An darn app. ?ÿThey have a app for everything i guess. I keep waiting on one that i need when i set on the porcelain thrown one day. I am pretty good with keeping up with all the maintenance just was my first time with the new truck. But it is a simple beast. I bought the new 7.3l gas engine by ford for that very reason. No overhead cam. Just an old school engine build and very simple maintenance. ?ÿHardest part is finding a good block to stand on to pour the oil in as it is so tall. I was going to go diesel but geezers they have changed. I opened the hood on one and said geezers i need a phd in hoses and such just to figure that thing out. Looked at the 6.2l and was like 16 spark plugs no way. So I took the gamble on this. So far i have no complaints. Basic xl work truck. Towes like a beast for what i use it for and mpg will surprise you for a 9k brick running down the road with 4.30 rear. I figured it would be screaming and high rpms for interstate use but at 75 mph to 80 mph she is barely over 2000 rpms. Max towing is about 20k for me so diesel was not necessary as it??s mostly close by in and out of the field etc. more hauling hay but not going down a road far and not over 45 mph. ?ÿIf I voided my warranty for changing the oil then i will be one upset person. ?ÿI don??t see how that can be though.
