It??s mainly our diet. Stone Age people have been found with pretty good teeth.
I was a sugar junkie as a kid.?ÿ And not much has changed, except that now I take good care of the teeth I have left.
So, while at the dentist, getting an extraction, last Thursday which took 2 hrs, the dentist told me a tale about a dentist that did not like dentists. He had a tooth, that needed a filling. He pulled it out of himself, filled it, and put it back in. That's odd.
Then, after getting my tooth out, I blew my nose. And, it opened a channel between my mouth and my nasal passages. I showed off, when my wife said to "Wash out my mouth with salt water". I took a mouthful of salt water, and was able to squeeze it out my nose. I was also up most of the night. It really hurt. So, I finally got back to the dentist, and he plugged the hole up with something like a marshmallow, made of collagen. While at the dentist, getting plugged, the dental assistant told us this tale. She had a lower front tooth, and it was broken or something. The dentist pulled it, cut off the TOP part, filled it, and PUT IT BACK! And, it will get a rubber flapper for cosmetic purposes.
I am hurting pretty bad, but I expect a full recovery. Then, we get to pull another. Stay tuned. Aint it exciting? Misery loves company!! Aint this a wonderful web site? You NEVER know what kind of HORRIBLE tale you will find...
But, what do I know? I'm just a curious surveyor!

PS I absolutely HATE narcotics. I have a real hard time doing anything constructive, after gettting a load in my jaw!

A while back I asked my dentist what to do if a tooth gets knocked out.?ÿ He said don't touch the root, if necessary wash off dirt with water,?ÿ and shove it back in to the hole.?ÿ If done within five minutes it's likely the tooth will reattach.?ÿ Up to sixty minutes the odds decrease but it's still possible.?ÿ Over sixty minutes and it's probably a goner.?ÿ It works especially well on kids.?ÿ Oh, and get to the nearest dentist ASAP who'll splint it to adjacent teeth so it can't move as it heals.
All that suffering - did they at least give you a free copy of the CD?
Coincidentally, I just got back from the dentist with 2 new fillings.?ÿ I tried to go without numbing as I usually do, but one was pretty deep (replacing an older filling) and I was squirming enough he numbed it.
My theory is that if it isn't numb the dentist is more careful about keeping it cooled while grinding.?ÿ The heat build up causes the nerves to be sensitive for a long time afterward.
My nerves are sensitive to a dental drill at 50 feet!

My muffled groans don't do justice to the agony.?ÿ

i had a few fillings that i needed to have filled, one small one not so small.
first one wasnt numb, he hadnt injected close enough to the nerve.
i decided to ride it out, like my parents and everyone else whom never had the pleasure of novacaine.
wow. blinding white pain like electrical shocks. i practiced my zen detachment and just looked beyond.
at the end of the first one, Doc asked, "how you doing?"
i say " wow, its amazing how fast the pain subsides then comes on again between drilling attacks."
he was mortified, and asked why would i do that and not tell him i wasnt numb.
i explained my curiosity, and then after the second bigger filling, my mouth was numb for about 6 hours.
go figure.

Mind over matter with the Eastern arts, trying to transcend dental medication?
