Anti theft device

Yep, that will eliminate a good number of potential thieves from driving it off.

What did you get? I've been looking up and down for an AWD compact SUV with a standard and there is next to nothing out there. Nearly all the manufacturers have gone to automatics and they're just flat out boring to drive. If I had to deal with LA traffic that would be one thing but I way prefer a stick for the winding and snowy roads I drive.

I drive a stick shift. I was looking at this photo forever trying to figure out what the anti theft device was. I even blew it up so I could see what the red thing was, I thought that might be the anti theft. Then I realized it was the stick shift. Took me a while.

Definitely my favorite type of anti-theft device.

Automatics are OK with me, especially with the need to operate more complex navigation, and even more complex radios. Sticks are OK too; more fun. But my Mazda CX-5 has a "manual" mode for drive that lets me give the onboard electronics a mild suggestion about which gear to use. Um, no. Either the car's in charge, or I'm in charge. Half-way in between is unacceptable.

I got a Jeep Rubicon Wrangler. I ordered it as "stripped" as possible.

I only added the hardtop and a lower gear ratio 4.88.

I was a bit apprehensive about that low gear, then I drove it and I'm very happy.

Stock 33" tires. Start out in 2nd it wants to go. I didn't give it any gas, simply let the clutch out and it was accelerating. 2nd and 3rd for town, 1st for getting to the mountain, the rest for highway driving.

The problem I'm having with new vehicles is they tend to make me want to nod off. I've rented a new F150, a new Hylander, SWMBO has a new Honda and I bought a new 3500 Ram for work. All of them are so quiet, smooth, self driving that I need something to keep me focused or I'm falling asleep.

Not this jeep, it's noisy, doesn't steer itself, lots of shifting, made to keep my attention. Perfect for an old guy like me.

Most of the vehicles I've driven over the years were manuals. I didn't mind it so much when I lived in rural farm country, but once I brought it to Denver rush hour traffic it made me want to claw my eyes out.

My personal vehicle is a Dodge Ram 1500, 4WD and automatic tranny but I have the option to shift it manually with a paddle shifter built into the steering wheel. When it's in manual mode the automatic is completely overridden and it only shifts up or down when I hit the paddle switch.

I made the drive up I-25 from Pueblo to DIA last year. It was a middle of the week excursion to pick up SWMBO at DIA. I didn't think I'd ever get to 470, lots of 20mph, lots of stopped traffic. Finally I got to 470, it was a huge stress relief. I didn't care what the toll was it was worth every penny.

To this day my favorite ride is still the M151A2 that I drove while working for the DoD. It was a tad bit more striped down than your Jeep. Like yours you normally started in second, only down side was it topped out at 45mph on a down hill run.

Wasn't anywhere it wouldn't go!

I did drive it down the highway at 75mph in 5th gear, it was running about 2700 rpm so it's not going to get great gas mileage on the highway, but that's not why I got it.

As I recall, when you reached top speed in the M151 and maintained if for any length of time, it vibrated so badly that you needed to give 'the boys' a little lift to keep them off that thin cushioned seat.

Not only an Anti Theft but also an Anti Valet. I had an old 94 F150 and use to brief at the pentagon. A lot of times we were in a time crunch so they would valet our vehicles. Well one night the young man came and stopped me before I made it through security. He said sir I can’t get this thing to crank at all. I said it was running when I left it. He tried shoving it in gear and e brake so it hopped and died. I ran back out and got it running and parked it for him. As I made a sprint across the parking lot in suite and tie. Was not my best brief. I was a bit winded lol.

There are some add on modules that will increase the security of the Wrangler. If you plug it in you can set it so after pushing the start button you will need to push something else or it won't start. Also, if you're car jacked it will let them drive the Jeep for 20 seconds before it shuts down. Gives you time to get away I suppose.

I don't live in a high crime area, but I'm considering it. I want to be sure warranty's and such are still valid.

It might be an option for the work rigs, still looking around for them.
