Amen, Brother Brad, amen.
I mentioned Beerleg to E-38 Survey Solutions
I don't know if this has been discussed before but what about charging a small subscription fee to be a member? Are there precedents for this with other websites?
It seems a few thousand members paying a small fee (and many donate anyway) would go along way towards covering maintenance costs and a well deserved salary of sorts.
Anyone could read posts, but if you want to write your own, or private message a member, you have to lay down a few bucks a year to join the club.
This may be really unpopular and maybe doesn't exist on any other website - I don't know..Just an idea that occurred to me.

I have to admit, I've thought about adding a paywall. But I think what would happen is that most people just wouldn't join, and there'd be maybe 20 people participating. The traffic would die down because of the small amount of participation, thus the helpful threads that are indexed by search engines would be few. There's be little reason to visit, thus little reason to pay for access... this is just my theory, of course, since I haven't actually tried it.
It's an amazing idea, but I'm just not sure it would work. And it would be painful to learn that lesson, I'm afraid.
However, there is an opt-in BeerLeggers Club available for those that do want to have a paid membership with a few bennies. 🙂 Note: This is a new feature and I haven't marketed it at all yet.
Just don??t go the Elon Musk Twitter route. Personally I??d prefer every few months or even twice a year you did a pledge drive sort of like public radio and give folks the option of choosing an automatic monthly donation with a free calendar or mug if they do ten dollars a month. Personally I think a pay wall would deplete fresh blood and grist for the mill.?ÿ

Yes, this is exactly why I've never done it. Thought about it many times though. I still end up with the same theoretic conclusion when I think it through.
I like the pledge drive idea - Wikipedia do this, make it very easy to donate, and i always end up giving something. They seem to know just when to stop from being too intrusive, but Wendell is the opposite - too polite! (I don't even see a "Donate" button, unless I deleted it somehow)
Obviously alot of the guys here just quietly donate regularly and don't make a song and dance about it, but others, like me, need a little prodding/reminder so some kind of drive would be good.
I'm here alot more than it might seem because I don't usually sign in if I am just browsing.
I agree, on reflection, that a subscription would probably lead to stagnation.
Allen Build Instruments- you can drop my name. They are good guys to work with from my experience.?ÿ
