What I want to know is how old does one have to be in order to retire from a cushy-sounding job like Golf Course Superintendent??ÿ Is this a public employer that is part of a retirement plan based on age plus years of employment adding to a specific number??ÿ Or is this a private course where they put you out to pasture when you need a golf cart to go from tee to green?

I can imagine like most jobs that has its headaches, probably including dealing with underperforming employees, user complaints, environmental regulations, water shortages, and competing with other departments for budget.
What I want to know is how old does one have to be in order to retire from a cushy-sounding job like Golf Course Superintendent??ÿ Is this a public employer that is part of a retirement plan based on age plus years of employment adding to a specific number??ÿ Or is this a private course where they put you out to pasture when you need a golf cart to go from tee to green?
There is nothing about being a Golf Course Superintendent that is cushy; low budgets, low wages, low labor pool, etc. Being a Golf Course Superintendent is a life style, much like being a rancher or farmer. There are no days off or vacations during the golf season. I was in the private industry during my time as a GCS, so no retirement but what I was able to put away. I am in my mid-50s and now have a job I can leave at work.

I did attend a significant golf tournament one time many years ago.?ÿ Jay Haas was a young fellow at the time.?ÿ ?ÿWill admit I do watch a little golf on TV.?ÿ But, since it is mostly the clips of drives and putts it in no way resembles trying to follow the golfers through the course.

What you see on TV and as a spectator is the hard work of the Superintendent and their green crew. Of the 11,000 golf courses in the USA, maybe 10% have it "good" and they still work long hours.
Knew an Agricultural Engineer many years ago whose chosen career was in designing golf course irrigation systems.?ÿ He had traveled all over the world for projects.
