While it may be a misassumption on my part to think that you may not know what purpose Co-op tracking was intended to serve, I will explain the concept as I understand it to have been designed.?ÿ Co-op tracking was a Javad Ashjaee concept that was intended to mitigate the effects of poor satellite geometry.?ÿ The theory was that if you needed to get a fixed solution on a point that had obstructions to the reception of the satellite signals such as a building, or tree line, or perhaps a high wall in a quarry or strip mine, you could take the receiver to a nearby position that had clear view of most of the satellites in the sky at the time.?ÿ One would obtain a fixed solution in that open condition and then proceed immediately to the area where the obstructions were an issue.?ÿ The receiver would then "synthesize" data it should have been receiving from the occluded satellite signals, allowing the receiver to report a fixed solution in the challenged location.

That feature was designed to accommodate a daily condition routinely experienced where the GPS constellation had become significantly out of balance so that at times you might have 14-15 satellites overhead while at other times you might only have 5 or 6.?ÿ And the GLONASS constellation only had 7 or so functioning satellites, and you could only use their signals in your positioning solution if you were seeing at least 2 GLONASS satellites.?ÿ Therefore, this feature was to mitigate conditions that are not typically present with today's constellation numbers.?ÿ And Topcon pretty quickly ceased recommending using that "feature" on their receivers.?ÿ I have a current-generation HiPer VR receiver on my desk and looking at the options file loaded on the receiver, I see Co-op tracking in the list, but I also see that it is not enabled in the receiver.

The foregoing notwithstanding, Co-op tracking should be enabled in the OAF for any HiPer Lite+.?ÿ Therefore, you should be able to test it and see for yourself if it enhances your results or not.?ÿ But i do know that Topcon has long since ceased recommending that it be enabled.
