Corn tripod. It can extend to around very tall, to "see over corn". It's a Dutch Hill brand.
I'd have to measure it, but I'd guess it can extend to around 7.5 or 8 ft.
"Corn tripod". This was a common expression, back pre GPS. It's probably fallen into disuse, due to GPS.

If you have a base station near an obstruction, or somebody parks their truck near your base site, it gives you up to 2 feet extra height, or about that much.
It can reduce or eliminate multipath, at the base.
It can help, when the city puts a chain link fence up, near your base point, (which can ruin a good base site). Of course, a piece of range pole can help too. But, they can get wobbly in wind.
