I have two HP 41CX. let me get some batteries and see how they are. One had the battery terminals repaired by International Calculator in Florida. I don't they are around anymore.

I suggest contacting the executors of recently deceased surveyor's estates, and persuading them to pry the HP out the cold, dead fingers of the dearly departed.

One of the best calculators ever. A friend lost his after many years and he told me it just dies been repaired a few times. He got some app that he has been happy with as it is laid out the same. I have not tried the app thing personally yet. I might have to buy my daughter lunch and get her to load it for me lol.

I ran the 41 and go 32s II for a long time. Lost my 41 on a deployment unfortunately. I had secured it in a plotter box and somehow it got unwrapped and crushed. I was devastated. In my own mind I gave it a proper burial. That thing had been with me since the 90’s and the man who gave it to me had it for a while before that. My 32s II was more basic bud fit in my shirt pocket and it fell in one to many manholes over the years.

I bought mine in the mid 70's. It sits in my desk drawer, but only because the LCD display went all funky.

If you have the dosh, you could fork out for one these replicas:

https://www.swissmicros.com/products

I'm not affiliated with and haven't seen the product in real life but the website looks legit and if I ever get tired of the emulator I use on my phone, I might give one of these a go.

This is the emulator I use for HP 42 to run my close program:

Yea, I don't know why you would spend the money on an older HP41CX when you could get the DM41X for about the same price or less !

These calculators look really nice !

It's easy to understsnd if you have 40 years of finger memory running a true 41.

I ran the 11c and 41c for decades. I can still pick up an 11 and run through most calcs smooth as silk. I've been migrating to the 35s for exams for about ten years, and force myself to leave the oldies on the shelf. It's unfortunate we are forced to abandon proven tools, but that's a different thread..

I just inherited a 41CX from a colleague who passed away several years ago. It wouldn't turn on, so I removed the battery cradle to see what it looked like in there. No corrosion, just 4 batteries in place that I figured were probably bad. I didn't have any new N cells around, so I broke out the multimeter to see if the ones that were in there had any juice. Two of them were well under 1 volt, but the next two were around 2.7 volts. What's up with that?

I looked closer (had to use a magnifying glass; aging eyes, you know) and saw that they aren't N cells, they're A23 batteries, which are nominally 12 volts. I don't know if a 41 can withstand a 48-volt input (12v x 4 batteries) without damage, and I guess I won't know until I get some new N cells.
