I have a Warren Knight Sipe-Sumner Compass #19372 that I am selling. It comes with a wooden box in good shape with a new foam insert. Also comes with a Warren night aluminum tripod. WK 19-300

This is the compass that Henry Sipe talked about in the end of his book Compass Land Surveying. They are extremely functional and are a good way to run rough flagged boundaries or retrace a magnetic line.

There is a declination adjustment that allows you to dial in so you can use it in any bearing system.

Nice toy!! Hard to find!

Let me know if anyone is interested.

I’ll get it out in my field and give it a 90 degree test and let you know.

Tested this afternoon and the needle settles in about 25-35 seconds and has a deviation of about 1/2 degree. As a comparison my other Sipe compass settles in about 65-75 seconds and has a deviation of about the same 1/4 to 1/2 degree. It’s hard to quantify because this is the smallest graduation on the compass.

I was thinking the needle was stronger on the one that settled quicker so I tuned up my second one, weight balanced the needle and used a lodestone on the needle… but it was still slow to settle. So may that pivot is a bit sharper…

Hope that answers your question.
