If you have the old batteries, I would get them re-celled. I had a pair re-celled many years ago at a Batteries Plus.

I know you didn't ask, but you could probably go with Parani Bluetooth radios cheaper than you could get new batteries. That's what I did, and I like them a lot better. I think I paid about $300 for the entire setup.

I did the same thing. Much lighter, easier to charge, and I get about 800' range out of the stubby antennas in a rural setting.

The bluetooth just plugs right up, and you don't even have to change any settings on your data collector or instrument.

I have tried that and my datacollector doesn't seem to connect. Maybe I have a setting wrong. I have some ideas to try and I hope they work.

Man, I sure wish you were closer. I just plugged mine up and they just worked.

What settings did you have on the instrument and the Sena's. Did you use one with bluetooth or did you have to use two sena radios??

so you use one sena radio and bluetooth without changing any settings. What instrument did you use it on? I can connect my datacollector to the bluetooth but it keeps dropping connection all the time and won't take to the instrument. I have a robotic gts825a topcon.

I run an 802a w/ 2 paranis. My understanding is the DC software doesn't expect (or allow for) connection to such an old instrument with Bluetooth. Only serial through com1. So, from the dc you go: serial to sena> sena to sena> sena to hirose at the gun.

side note: I never got around to trying it because the Bluetooth range on my Nomad is inferior to the senas. But, I understand there's a chance you could set your dc to communicate through com3 or com4 (apparently a software legacy reserved for Bluetooth "faked" as serial).

On that com3 idea: I know nothing about it and will not be able to answer any questions. On the old Topcon with paranis, search my user name and you'll find a thread with some more info on how I did it. Search parani and you'll find a wealth of information posted by the good users of this site.

You can always show your appreciation through the admin's patreon site: grassroots funding for surveyorconnect.

It allows one time payments of any amount if you click "become a patron" at the top of the page. Or, you can do a monthly thing.

I use the Paranis as a direct replacement for Satel radios. I have one plugged directly into the Nomad using Com1 and the other connected to the instrument with a standard cable. I left the settings on the instrument and data collector exactly the same as if the Satels were connected. If you don't like the radio sticking out of the data collector, you could always connect it with a cable. I don't try to use the Bluetooth that is built into the Nomad because I don't think it is powerful enough.

I did the same thing Chris did, except I was using a TDS Ranger.

My instrument is a Topcon GPT 8000A

Hi finally found a forum to ask this question:
I have a Topcon GPT 8000a and a GETAC with SURVCE 4.03 I bought it used. I would like to know if there is an easy way to switch from Robotic to Manual mode? I now have to go through 6 steps on the robot ((change parameters) and 7 steps on the GETAC (change comm settings). I am hoping someone on this board will tell me about a button or a hot key set up that will change the switch over to one key stroke. Thanks J.R.
