I'm semi retired. My Nomad TDS data collector bit the dust 6 months ago. I'm in the need for Nomad, Recon or other data collector with Survey Pro or Carlson data collector software able to connect to a Topcon GPT 3000. I'm not doing this full time by no means. But every now and again an old project will come up that I'd rather handle myself then to let some less than, well you know what I mean.
You should be able to easily find that on ebay if not here.
I have an SMI vr5 data collector complete with HP48GX and Transfer software in very good shape.
I would take him up on that offer Jules. If your used to TDS than SMI will operate the same, only better!
Have you found a nomad or recon? I have a nomad w/survey pro, recons w/survey pro and a recon w/ Carlson.?ÿ
Nomad touch screen is new but doesn't seem to be aligned, having touch problems.
I have couple recons with screens that work great. Batteries are off and on, I think cause they are old.?ÿ
I have to put them on charger, since I haven't used them in months/year.?ÿ
Thank you.
We have a Ranger/TSC2
running Survey PRO for sale, PM me for details.
?ÿ
Can you even download that any more??ÿ How do you connect to your PC - do you still have one with a 9-pin?
I want to thank everyone who offered a data collector. I'm still in the mode of maybe buying one. My Nomad lost it's operation software. Lost all my programs, including Survey Pro. I contacted Titan Elite, a Trimble service center. They said send the Nomad to them, and they would flash the operation software back in. No charge. It's a Trimble service. But Survey Pro is gone. Has anyone flashed Survey Pro into one of their data collector before? I need to find my recite where I bought the Nomad with Survey Pro.

Adding a 9-pin COM port card to a desktop PC is easy and cheap ($25 or so).?ÿ Not so much with a laptop.
It easy with laptop also, just use USB-serial converter. Just don't buy cheap Chinese ones off ebay.
I've never tried one of those converters -- never needed to -- and didn't want to recommend one because I've been told that the USB-to-parallel converters don't work with parallel-port hardware locks.?ÿ It's good to know that the serial situation is different.
Wait a minute -- I *have* tried one of those converters, and it *did* work!?ÿ I remember now doing a project where I had to download a bunch of Trimble receivers in the field daily for a couple of weeks, and I used a Surface Pro 4 with a converter to do it.?ÿ I recall now that I was advised to make sure the converter had an FTDI chip rather than a knockoff, so that's what I bought.
@jim-frame Yes, FTDI or Prolific. But even when they present themselves as FTDI or prolific there are knockoffs. That's why its better to buy from local guy for?ÿ bit more money and be sure it will work
@jph I connect with a typical 9 pin null modem wire. All my Dell computers are fitted with one. I have all the v7 transfer programs necessary for file control and transfer.
