@murphy

Have they removed the plat and legal description portion from the exam??ÿ Do you recall how many questions there were?

@deedee?ÿ

No plat/legal on the test, they make you submit examples satisfying their requirements instead for the application.

If I remember right, there were ~30 questions

@dan-spaulding?ÿ

I'm getting ready now to take the PSI TN State Specific Exam. This will be my first experience with a computer based exam. Can you elaborate as to what was the focus of the exam, and what i should concentrate on in my study and review. Though I am licensed in six states, none of them has questions about drainage, so I'm having to bone up on that. Were there problems to be solved? I would certainly appreciate any insight from anyone on the current TN State Specific Exam. Thanks.

@murphy I'm approved to schedule my TN Specific test and trying to prepare myself. You mention in your post that you contacted TAP's to purchase test prep material. What is TAP's and how can I contact them for the same material. Excuse my ignorance before hand, ... I'm from Louisiana!

TAPS is the Tennessee Association of Professional Surveyors. (Tennessee Association of Professional Surveyors (taps-inc.com)

Their store is linked on the navigation bar of their website.

Congratulations on passing. I am churning through the application process now to take the TN state specific exam, (currently licensed in NC and SC). I appreciate the information on the test because, as previously mentioned in this thread, it's nearly impossible to find out what to concentrate your studying on. TAPS only had 2 publications available to order "Tennessee Boundary Law" and "4 Steps West". You mentioned ordering the "TN Land Surveyor Handbook" is that possibly another name for "Tennessee Boundary Law" or is that a different book that they don't offer any longer? Were the drainage questions in the for of a calculation or were they presented in some other form? Thanks for the help.

Yes, Tennessee Boundary Law 2022 or maybe there's a 2023. Not sure if I mentioned it previously, but you might want to review the Tennessee Planning Commissioner Handbook too. I missed some questions regarding which regulatory agency jurisdictions.

Thanks Murphy. I will definitely dig into the Planning Commission Handbook and the Tennessee Boundary Law 2023. Any input on what to expect in reference to Drainage questions would be greatly appreciated. I have been relearning Hydrology over the past couple of months. It would be helpful to know if there is an Rational Method problem, Manning's Equation problem, etc. or is it more multiple choice style fact based questions.

Hi Again Murphy, I would be great to spend a few minutes with you on the phone if you are willing. I probably shouldn't put my phone number on here but if you are willing, please email me your contact info at John@TripodSurveying.com

If you can't, that's no problem, I appreciate help that you have already given me.

Hi Bad, It's good to know that they asked hydrology questions. Were the hydrology questions calculations or were they more fact/informational based? I'm approved and plan to schedule the test in the next few weeks.

I am also in the application process for the TN exam. I am currently licensed in MS. I am also interested in the format of the drainage questions. Any input would be appreciated. Also, is the "4 Steps West" book on the TAPS site helpful in preparing for the exam?

I just got back from the TAPS convention exam review class. It seems like the drainage questions will be fairly basic because of time constraints and also because the exam is computer based. I can send you the class notes from the drainage section if you like. Email me at john@tripodsurveying.com
