Tell the Board that you passed your exam.?ÿ This is not automatic anymore.

Get this:?ÿ I took my PA state-specific land surveying exam 12 days ago on July 17, 2020.?ÿ They gave me a print-out on my way out the door that said I passed.?ÿ Meanwhile, in the Pearson VUE Candidate Information Booklet (specific for the PA LS Exam), it says, "After you have successfully passed the examination and upon satisfactory evidence that you have met all statutory requirements, your license will be issued. Please allow approximately 30 days for the Board office to process your license."

On the PA licensing website, where you submit the application, it said there was one item outstanding:?ÿ The results from the PA exam.?ÿ I checked every day for 12 days and there was no status change.?ÿ So, something told me to contact Pearson VUE and ask them how long it took to send the results to the Board.?ÿ After a long wait on hold, I was told that I had to tell them myself!?ÿ Really??ÿ I barely believed it.?ÿ So I emailed the Board at st-engineer@pa.gov and asked them if they needed anything from me after I passed the exam.?ÿ The reply came less than two hours later.?ÿ They thanked me for informing them, saying that the Board no longer gets notifications when the exam is passed.?ÿ She issued my license number on the spot and gave it to me in the email.?ÿ I am active and verifiable on the Board's website and my license is on its way.?ÿ Imagine that.?ÿ I could have had the license the day of (or the day after) the exam.

I know that this was the PA state exam, but this may be the way things go for other states and other exams.?ÿ

Please spread the word so that no candidate sits and waits around thinking that the Board gets the results automatically.?ÿ

Does this mean that the Board will simply take the candidate's word for having passed the exam, without proof or verification from the testing agency?

Wow how times have changed.?ÿ Back when I took the exam (last century) we had to wait about three months to find out if we passed.?ÿ That notification came from the BOR.?ÿ Those could be the longest three months of your life.?ÿ Even of you felt good about your exam the nagging doubt was a hassle.

When I took the DC exam (in the afternoon) I had the results in the exam room, a congratulations email on my phone before I got to the subway station, and was listed as a licensed surveyor on the board website when I got home.?ÿ Ordered my stamp less than four hours after I finished the exam?ÿ ?ÿ?ÿ

@james-fleming

Much the same for me. 3 anguished months in 1998 (OR) and again in 2001 (WA), 20 minutes in 2011 (OK).

Congrats, so which book, if any, did you have to open?

How much of the two hours did you need?

@rover83 I assume that they can access the Pearson VUE records somehow.  My Pearson VUE account showed a passing score upon login.  I guess that the Board can go there and check this themselves, but must initiate the inquiry from their end.  Again, I'm just guessing.

@norman-oklahoma Thank you.  The application process was long.  Even with the NCEES record, I had quite a few submissions and follow-up submittals before I was approved to take the exam.  For all women:  They requested my marriage license because my bachelor's degree had my maiden name, and not the (current, married) name on my application.  In case you're like me, and couldn't find it right away, take the time to request a new copy now.

Congratulations on passing! I took the exam July 8 and also passed! I never told the Board my results though and I got my license in the mail? Could it be because I also took the PS exam July 11, so once I passed that and NCEES submitted my results it alerted the Board?

Some processes and procedures are just very Board specific.?ÿ I'll leave it at that.
