GA hydrology exam question

I just passed the rules/laws portion of the GA state exam and now studying for the hydrology portion. Well, studying MORE for the hydrology portion...

Anyway, I know the GA Stormwater Management Manual is a reference item for the test. But I just found out that what I thought was only 1 Volume is actually 3 as follows:

Volume 1 (Stormwater Policy Guidebook): 158 pages
Volume 2 (Technical Guidebook): 844 pages
Volume 3 (Pollution Prevention Guidebook): 214 pages

Anyone around here know, if, of the 40 questions on the exam, are any pulled from all 3 Volumes of this manual? I hate to take over 1200 pages of manual in there if questions only come from select volumes....say Volume 1 or Volume 2. Is this question clear as mud?

Disclaimer: I am not asking for test specifics, just if certain references apply.

Thanks!

Go here and get the 5th edition: LINK

The 6th edition has just come out but I doubt they have updated the test yet.

This should cover the lion share.

Keith,

Thanks for the link. I had already downloaded and printed the GA E&S Control Manual.

I was talking about the GA Stormwater Management Manual.

I'll try to read between the lines here. Are you saying the E&S Manual is all I need? You did not answer the question in my original post.

That is the 'Blue" book, excellent reference, we use it all the time to meet the water quality/quantity in the counties we work in, with that said the green book (5th edition) should be sufficient for the test.

10-4.

"should" be sufficient is far from "will" be sufficient.

With only 40 questions, miss more than 12 and I'm screwed.

Let me try my question this way:

In your opinion (and I realize its just your opinion, everyone has one), should I print the 1200 pages of "Blue" book just in case one or two or five (or hell, ten) of the hydrology questions come from it? Are you familiar enough with the exam to give a "strong" opinion?

About 3/4 years ago, I along with several others were fortunate enough to help with that portion. The blue book is an excellent reference but just downloading it and hoping to learn it between know and the test or use it for a quick answer want help. If any questions come from it, you will need to know your stuff.

Sorry, but that is more than I should have said.

Good luck,

Keith,

I didn't mean to push you to an uncomfortable level.

I appreciate the info. I didn't know I was talking to someone who helped form the exam questions. Your advice is sound though. No, there is probably NO WAY I could learn that 1200 pages of material before I need to schedule the exam (my exam eligibility notice is good for another 9 months).

So, I will probably focus my efforts on the material in the E&S manual and maybe take a few portions of the Stormwater manual that I think cold possibly make up exam material.

I took this hydrology exam 5 years ago (before the economy took a crap) and only missed a passing grade by 1 or 2 questions. Bad news is I can't recall how the exam was structured.

On a side note, do you have any advice for references to cover the following percentage exam items?:

SEWER PROFILING 5%

DESIGN OF WATER DISTRIBUTION 5%

Jud,

Keith should not say anymore about this.

'Nuff said.

No problem here.

I didn't know asking for reference advice was such a faux pas.

Can you give any advice on the State Specific portion? I believe that I have all of the materials that I need (based on advice from this site in a previous discussion.) I am preparing to take both the state specific and hydrology portions in April. I have previously passed the FL and AL exams. If you do not want to openly divulge info in this conversation, feel free to email me at landerson@ssmc.us. Thanks in advance for any advice and/or pointers that you can offer and good luck on your exam!

It appears Luke is trying to tell me something (or trying to tell Keith something).
Not sure exactly what though....

I was only asking for reference advice. No more. No less. If that was wrong, I apologize.

So I will err on the side of caution and not discuss this topic any further.

FWIW - when I was on the NCEES cut score committee we had to sign a statement pledging not to discuss anything about exam preparation with examinees for seven years.

Every seven years NCEES put together a committee of about 20 surveyors to evaluate the exams and develop the projected passing score.

I see what you are saying about Keith.

The GA state specific exams are not governed by NCEES (as far as I know). But I get your point that maybe exam/question writers are limited in certain respects about disclosure.

Like I said, I really was only asking for reference advice. But I guess I can see how that could be considered a gray area due to disclosure agreements.

FWIW, I did not seek out Keith as an exam/question writer. See the disclaimer at the bottom of my original post. Again, I apologize.
