WOW, amazing how well books are selling in the Fundraiser. I have a book case full, but can’t (won’t) part with any (and when I die they will end up in the dumpster). Odd how I WAS willing to part with the triple glass I use as a book end but not the book I may never crack open again. Upon googling, there is an entire Japanese philosophy concerning this. In Shinto, wabi sabi is the balance between the pleasure we get from physical things and the pleasure we get from letting things go. Marie Kondo, former Shinto temple attendant and graduate from Tokyo Women’s Christian University says to thank your unread books for their service, do not open them and put them in a garbage bag destine for the thrift store (or Fundraiser Forum).
Turn around, look at your bookcase, apply the KonMari system of performing wabi sabi on your collection and I will try to do the same, maybe.
