The FBI Story (1959) starring James Stewart has some footage of the old Yankee Stadium near the end which may be of interest to baseball history buffs. I just watched the movie on TCM.
The movie depicts a football game being played in the stadium; FBI agents follow a suspected espionage agent into the stadium.
I also noticed the vehicles depicted had license plates with gold lettering on black background which I thought might be California but they probably aren't. The California Plates were Black on Gold from 1956 to 1963 and Gold on Black from 1963 to 1969. Besides that segment of the film looks shot on location in NYC.
Were New York plates gold on black in the late 1950s?
It's not really gold; California DMV calls it "chrome yellow."
Wow, those don't look like what I saw in the movie. I couldn't read the State name.
Maybe the plates were fakes.
According to IMDB:
Anachronisms: The agents watching Whitey follow him to a NY Giants football game at Yankee Stadium. The team did not move there until 1956, but according to the plates on the taxi outside the park the story takes place in 1950.
