From Bethlehem, PA, and always a local boy. Born in Bethlehem, graduated Liberty High School in Bethlehem, 30 missions as a B-24 waist gunner over Germany, played college football for the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, # 1 draft pick, then 14 years, 2 championships for the Philadelphia Eagles and retired to Bethlehem. "Concrete Charlie" played both ways, center and linebacker in college and pro.
I met him at my high school sports award dinner as a senior, and went to his bar in Bethlehem a few times over the years.
