Anyone have suggestions for a good real time star chart app for iPhone.
I have tried sky orb 3d (free version) and it was ok. The real time was a little buggy along with lunar ephemeris, so it makes you wonder about the other data. I don’t know if the glitches iron out with the paid version
I am thinking of downloading Star Walk or Sky Chart. Star Walk is 92mb and seems to the one most widely used. I use Sky Week app for general info. I don't need the fancy graphics of Sky Chart offers but like the magnitudes scaled of stars.
I have YouTubed and read many online reviews of other apps and can’t make a evaluation.
Spyglass offers night sky and looks interesting but wonder if the star chart is an after thought of the app.
I am only a recent smarty phone user since my service offered me a free upgrade.
Btw, it took me 25 years to use a microwave. 😐
We have set up a telescope for celestial viewing and the kids get into it more by using gadgets such as the apps.
Weather has been VG for night sky viewing and optimum Saturn viewing will be in a month or so.

I didn't respond initially to this Robert because this won't help much because you mentioned the iPhone, however I've been using DroidSky on my android phone. It works fantastically. I've always wanted to know the stars better and this program works great. I've already learned Leo, Canis Major and Gemini (I already knew Cassiopeia, Orion and the Big Dipper). It also points out planets, the moon and the sun, above and below horizon in realtime as you move the phone. I know it won't help with your iphone, but maybe someone in the family has a droid. If so, I highly recommend it - and it's free from Google Play.
