General Motors is axing Mr. Goodwrench because it's customers do not recognize it as a Corporate Brand. It was a way 37 years ago to promote good maintenance and for a long time it represented GMC, Chevrolet, Buick, Pontiac, Oldsmobile, Cadillac and then Saturn. Now that GM is down to only 4 brands they feel the cutomers want a GMC, Chevrolet, Buick or Cadillac mechanic. I guess those customers do not know that it is the exact same engines and mechanical fixtures whereas years ago they really were different.

Steve Hill, vice president of customer care and after-sales services for GM, said the move "is more than a name change." "It is a declaration of our commitment to our customers."

I guess the customers will also ignore the fact that GM has concentrated on multi GM brand mega dealers and now have to drive an average twice as far for service.
