General Swanwick: How can we trust you?
Superman: General, I grew up in Kansas.
One of the classic lines in the current Man of Steel movie which focuses on what was really going on as Krypton was about to be destroyed and the curse that brings to Earth 33 years later. Very good way to spend 143 minutes. Henry Cavill (Who??) is a very convincing Superman. He had to be special, when you consider his biological father was Russell Crowe and his adopted father was Kevin Costner. Casting Laurence Fishburne as Perry White was a bit over the top, though.
Despite much of the movie supposedly taking place in Smallville, Kansas, Superman's adopted hometown, absolutely none of the movie was filmed anywhere near there. Plano and Oswego, Illinois appear to be the primary rural and small town filming sites. Other portions of the movie were filmed in various locations in the Vancouver area and California as well as other locations in Illinois. At the very least, the film makers, during the disaster scenes, could have shown the World's Largest Ball of Twine in Cawker City, Kansas somehow being sucked up and eventually stuffed down the World's Largest Hand-Dug Well in Greensburg, Kansas. That would be a three-point shot even LeBron James couldn't beat.

We may see it today since it is going to be as hot as Hades here and we have a friend visiting from TN and we go to movies together sometimes.
Why is it PG13 because the soon to be 11 year old may go along.
He has seen plenty of PG 13 movies so I was wondering if it was for sex, language or violence.
I think the Superman is a major American iconic myth that every boy should know.
I guess that I should check the Rotten Maters website also..
Oh btw, you will like this.
Last night, our friend from TN told us a true story about a family member who took their kids to some church in TN during the Easter season.
The pastor was talking about the resurrection and he asked the congregation if everyone knew what the resurrection meant. The pastor asked her cousin's 10 year old if he knew what was meant by the resurrection and the boy replied,
"I don't know but if you still have one after 4 hours, you need to see a doctor."

OK Rotten Maters say sci-fi violence and destruction and some language.
He has experienced both before.
but they did not state the level of physical violence.
American Grafiti supposedly took place in San Rafael but was filmed in Modesto, believe me two very different places.

I can't think of anything sexual in the movie unless you count his birth. It's the normal wailing and grunting, but no body parts. Messy looking newborn, of course.
The violence is extreme between the natives of Krypton, but, they are invulnerable to standard injury. You assume people are dying, but nothing graphic that way either.
Can't remember any bad language.
This is all prior to him arriving at the Daily Planet as a reporter. Prior to that he was just a guy from Smallville.

I happened to be home (near Plano, Il) back when they were filming, so I drove over to see what was up. It wasn't active at the time, but the set construction around town was pretty neat to see. Probably the only reason I'd go see the film, to be honest.
Another film recently out was filmed in my home town as well. They used a family farm of a friends grandfather, actually put him in the movie too, I think.
