Well after much anticipation I purchased a nook color (used). I'm heading out for a trip to The Bakken and am getting some reading material together, stopped by the NGS site for some informative reading and OH MY GOD! So much good stuff to fill gaps in personal knowledge and to make more questions. Does anyone have another good source on survey/geodetic reading material? I've read some of Trimbles' white papers and rather enjoy that sort of thing.

Search for tutorials on your equipment and software. I loaded an 800 page tutorial for Inroads on my IPad last week. It will get me to sleep in 5 minutes must tomes, but it is a great research and reference tool.

Curly,

You will like it. I bought mine specifically for having alot of reference material with me, without having to carry around all the reference manuals for my TDS programs, equipment, state regulations, ALTA Specs, etc. I also enjoy being able to catch up on Beerleg in the evenings while laying in bed watching the late night news.

I have alot of the NGS Manuals on it, as well as all the state regs for each state that I am licensed in. I have the most current ALTA Specs on there. I need to put the FEMA Elevation Certificate stuff on there as well.

I find that if you use the PDF reader, you can use the bookmark option to keep your place. The Quickoffice version that came on my Nook Color does not allow that, unless I have not found it yet.

I haven't rooted it yet, but I am thinking that I might. I did see a Samsung tablet that Stephen Ward has, and he is on top of this new technology stuff. After seeing some of the ways he can review PDF versions of surveys, and using Dropbox mobile, I am thinking that this thing can help with productivity without having to crank up the laptop while away from the office.

I used mine a few weeks ago while at the TAPS Conference. Instead of printing out our 30 page or so Board Packet for our BOD meeting, I uploaded the PDF file of the packet to the Nook, and used it for the reports and such, and less paperwork to file after the meeting.

I have a charger in my bedroom, and keep an extra charger in my laptop bag. Same thing with my iphone charger. I can activate the hotspot on my phone, and use the Nook to surf or check email on the go. The keyboard is a little bigger on the Nook than the iphone.

Good luck, I think you will enjoy it.

I just bought a Nook Simple Touch . . .

I don't need no stinking charger. The battery lasts F-O-R-E-V-E-R!

and ever

Only problem with them ..

If you fly a lot, as I do, you will not be able to use it on takeoff or landing! I always take a paperback with me for travel, so while all the nifty phones with apps, e-readers and laptops are getting shut down, I'm still reading! I have a Kindle and love it, only draw back is as I said can't use it for a fair portion of the flight!

Oh I will, it's a gravy job as-builting pipe; boredom is the biggest issue!
