For the third week in a row, the # 1 ranked team lost, and Boise State should be even farther from # 1 than they have been all year. Let's look at the reality of who is still undefeated.

1/ Oregon is 7-0 and did beat UCLA 3-4 today.
2/ Auburn is 8-0 and beat LSU who were 7-0 now 7-1
3/ Michigan State is 8-0 and beat Northwestern 5-1 now 5-2
4/ Missouri 7-0 who just turned 6-0 Oklahoma into a 6-1 team
5/ TCU 8-0 who beat Air Force who was 5-2, now 5-3
6/ Utah 7-0 beat Colorado State now 2-6
7/ Boise State 6-0 beat no one today, while 3 of the "no ones" they already beat lost today. BSU has beaten 2 teams with winning records, Virginia Tech 6-2 and Toledo 5-3. The combined record of BSU opponents is currently 18-27. The computers and the reality of their numbers will drop BSU a few notches.

There are also eight 1 loss teams that are arguably better than Boise State;
Alabama 7-1
Ohio State 7-1
LSU 7-1
Wisconsin 7-1
Nebraska 6-1
Oklahoma State 6-1
Stanford 6-1
Florida State 6-1

Correct me if I am wrong but I thought the Ducks were #1?? At least that's what the local newspapers, radio stations & TV stations are blabbing about. 🙂

In my biased, subjective opinion Auburn should be #1 (and if you disagree please make your argument) and Cam Newton primary candidate for the Heisman.

It's still early but right now I would give the slight edge to Oregon based on watching them play the other night. All the others are very good teams and deserving.

I think I would put TCU at #2 then Auburn #3.

Probably a tie with Missouri and Michigan State and then Boise/Utah at #7.

Boise beat VT early then VT dropped a game to James Madison. VT is back on the roll now but that game hurt them a lot in the voting which will hurt Boise in the numbers game.

I think we will see more drama played out though so the crowd will thin some more in the coming weeks.

Really tough to pick among the top teams though since they all have shown both greatness and weaknesses this year. It will be tough for Auburn-Missouri and Oregon to stay unbeaten.

I can't really give you any argument other than just where they were in the polls before their big win yesterday. Of course, the poll placement is not fair but that is what we have. Auburn could justifiably be #1 in my opinion but so could several others at this point.

The BCS had Oklahoma as #1 and Oregon #2.

The AP/Coaches Poll had Oregon #1.

Auburn vs LSU

Gotta love the fact that 5 of the 6 SEC West teams are in the top 25.
I think LSU is going to come up short against Auburn, wouldn't surprise me one bit to see Auburn run the table (including the Iron Bowl) and wind up National Champs with Cam as Heisman to boot.

Cam Newton is very talented

I must say that it was BCS that put Oklahoma at #1 last week and that was probably a mistake. This weeks results can't change that fact and should not attempt to correct it.

Since that is their way, an with my narrow vision, when you are undefeated and you beat the #1 team, that makes Missouri #1 this week now at 8-0

There is a lot of football left to be played and its to early to decide the overall winner

Good point about Missouri, and makes sense.

Much as I would love to see Cam Newton play for Auburn the next two years, I really think he should go pro at the first opportunity. His style of quarterbacking has a limited lifespan, as he has yet to suffer a major injury. You don't go head to head wide open indefinitely.

What Is With This Stupid Love For Boise State ?

So far this year David has only slewn other Davids, not a Goliath in sight.

At 6-0 in the worst almost major conference Boise State gets picked ahead of three
8-0 and two 7-0 teams in actual major conferences.

And...What Is With This Stupid Hate?

Whether you love them or hate them (as LPL aka Paul in PA obviously, repeatedly and oh, so tiresomely does), the BSU Broncos and the TCU Horn Frogs and Utah Utes are making the best possible case ever for a true NCAA football playoff.

What's not to like about that? Regardless of the perceived merit of these teams, this is becoming the most interesting NCAA football season ever. I'll take that.

The Problem Bill Is Certain Voters...

That seem to pick Boise State as an attack against the big teams.

TCU at 8-0 is # 4 in the BCS due to their record and strength of schedule.

Utah at 7-0 is # 8 in the BCS due to their record and strength of schedule.

Boise State at 6-0 is # 3 in the BCS based solely on the sympathy popular vote, not on record or strength of schedule. Boise State has spent a lot of energy developing that they are the only credible small team in the USA which is a great disservice to all the other smaller schools.

Yet there are still regular ouputs from the Boise State lovers that "We are being screwed."

If after TCU beats Utah in 2 weeks they do not permanantly get ahead of BSU you might understand the prejudice that Boise has regimented only in their favor not for all small schools.

If Utah wins over TCU they have the opportunity to also pass Boise by the end of the year, but their road is tougher because it includes Air Force 5-3, San Diego State 5-2 and Notre Dame, even at 4-4 still a heavy hitter.

If you want the opportunity for small schools then treat them all fairly, no special favors or special love.
