My day in court

My clients have had a feud going with their neighbors for years. Last year, their attorney hired me to locate their property lines and driveway, fences, etc. because my clients wanted to put up an address sign on the shared driveway easement where the driveway splits off to go to the neighbor's house. The neighbor said no way, that's on my property. That still hasn't been resolved.

For one reason or another that nobody has shared with me, my client is on probation and had a restraining order on him for something that happened between him and the neighbor. The neighbor put a 2"X2" post a foot away from one of the property corners I found. My client slipped on the rocks, grabbed the post to steady himself and it broke. The neighbor called the cops and they hauled my client off in the squad car and the trial of the century was this morning. It was a violation of probation charge and my expert testimony was going to be whose property the broken stick was on.

I offered to go to Home Depot and buy another stick; the attorney was not amused. Anyway, they reached a deal with the DA this morning after I had already shown up ready to testify. They dropped the charges and extended the probation terms for another year and a half where my client is not supposed to come within 100 yards of the neighbor. I haven't checked, but I think it's less than 100 yards between their houses, so this is bound to turn out well. Especially since my client was telling me about all the guns he has stashed around his house in case the neighbor goes berserk.

Personally I think the whole neighborhood is whacko. I'd say maybe there's lead in the water supply, but I don't think my client drinks a whole lot of water.
