God bless smalltown USA.
Discovered this past Saturday of just how uninformed I have been all my life. We were cruising across Central Missouri and passed through Salisbury, Missouri, population 1600. Saw a big sign promoting The Salisbury Steak Festival, June 13-15.
We stopped at a convenience store and I purchased a copy of the weekly Salisbury Press-Spectator newspaper which was featuring all the news fit to print about the Festival. This included pictures of the five Steak Festival Queen Contestants and the nine 2013 Steak Festival Junior Miss Contestants.
The scheduled activities included a kick ball tournament (not kickball, kick ball) that might have been interesting to watch but not something in which I wish to participate. There was a carnival, a fish fry, a Co-ed Liberation Softball Tournament (whatever that means), horse shoe pitching contest, a baby show, numerous musical events, a parade and even a pie auction. There were three pulling events which did not clarify whether the contestants were to pull the miniature horses, pedal tractors and garden tractors or if those things were supposed to be pulling something behind them.
Next up.....the celebrated Turkey Drop in Yellville, Arkansas.
As God is my witness, I thought turkeys could fly!
The only Turkey Drop around here is called spring gobbler season!

I think it was Arthur Carlson (Gordon Jump?), the owner, who said that.
EDIT: Yep, it was
Guess Gordon Jump's alma mater.
> Guess Gordon Jump's alma mater.
His wiki says both Otterbein and Kansas State, but I have no idea of the significance.
I, too, graduated from one of those.
