Anyone have a a recommendation for some very "cost effective" general liability insurance? My carrier wants to go up 150.00 a year and it's already pretty expensive.

If Larry Phipps doesn't chime in, here is who he will recommend:

E&O Liability Consultants

http://www.eoliability.com/

I have gone with them also.

Compare

They write for Louisiana so if they write for Louisiana, I guess they can write wherever.
The best thing to do is talk to your local peers or even a local broker.

These folks will discount 15% if you provide proof of membership to a surveying society
Another compare

Ben, not sure where you are located, but checkout www.LandDesignInsurance.com. This is a 25+ year time tested program with more than 600 loyal clients and is the only program in the country that offers up to a 15% discount for membership in your STATE surveying society. It is aggressively expanding into new states throughout the MidWest, Middle Atlantic and select Southeast states.

Land Design Insurance Group supports only surveyors, civil engineers and landscape architects, so its pricing is not impacted by expensive claims caused by architects and other engineering disciplines (i.e. structurals & geotechs). It also insists on selling its insurance products through an agent located in your home state (we have identified specialists throughout the country if you need referrals or we can quote through your own agent, depends on the state.)

While I know this response is a self serving attempt to advertise, I appreciate that the last thing a surveyor wants is an increase to insurance costs while business is down. There are definitely options out there. Best of luck.

Check out the insurance package offered by NSPS. Last time I checked, they had a package for $500 per year that covered General Liability and Equipment. I am not in bussiness for my self so I don't know if the limits on the policy are high enough, but the equipment side of it looked very good. They had a high enough limit to cover a top of the line RTK and Robotic setup.

Steve is correct, $500 is minimum premium for most carriers nationwide (not just the NSPS program). For a smaller surveying firm, equipment or building coverage would be the only items that could drive price above the minimum.
