I'm so old I remember using a tape/chain with feet and inches and getting *hit for using my plumb bob as a hammer and making a metal fob with two holes instead of a bloody knot in order to suspend the plumb bob under the instrument that I needed a magnifying glass to read the degrees/mins. & to guess the seconds !

Do you just remember or did you use one?

I remember it, my father used it. I didn't.:-P

The second page of the EDM portion of the presentation sure was lousy in its clarity of the picture.

DGG.....You shouldn't have gotten hit for the reasons you state. But using a tape with feet and inches? Blasphemy!

Wow how thing change, but stay the same. My parents did that to me when I was a kid. Now, I holler at my kids to find the remote.
