Hollywood South came to our “house” last weekend.
Terminator 5 featuring ex-Governator Ahhknowd is filming locally. This past weekend they shot scenes on a large pond at a property that adjoins our soccer fields. They arranged with us to use our driveway for setting up their catering support for the shoot.
They also wanted to use our fields also for their base camp but they wanted to park their trucks/tents on our fields which we could not in no way agree to do. A lot of our sparse budget of being a very small non-profit goes into maintain the turf as best as possible. So they just fed the cast/production et al at our site. They do some good eating.
Hollywood South is booming away here in Louisiana. Maybe one of the reasons besides the very generous tax incentives is the great cuisine from the catering staffs.
The working title that I was told by a production assistant is Terminator 5: Hasta la Vista , Baby even though media sources are calling it Terminator 5: Genesis.
Funny thing is that I saw Terminator when it came out in the 80’s and didn’t care for it and haven’t seen 2,3, or 4. I did not mention that. Anyway, hopefully their check will be good. They are now down the road to wherever next. They almost conflicted with summer soccer camp for the little kids and fall try-outs for older kids .

I was going to try and make it down to your neck of the woods earlier this month to attend this:

But I just couldn't make it work with my schedule. Perhaps next year.
James, Beware of the
dilettantes. But if course in Louisiana, any reason to throw a party or a festival happens with the courtesy of the local Parish tourist commission.
Here is a link to a recent 'gathering' under the President of the Live Oak Society in Lewisburg, La recently.
Sounds kind of like a existential funk nightmare to me.

I had a few encounters with Percy though the years. All of them were unpleasant ( maybe I should have been carrying a flask of bourbon:-) . I did like his writings. The bookstore that he opened for his daughter here was a nice addition to the town for awhile. He wrote above it. The local library use to have a good symposium every year for free. But he made a lot of the locals angry for one reason or another. I heard they had unpleasant encounters with him also that they could not look past. It is a pity. That is why our local library was not considered for the 'serenity circle'
There is a plaque for him entering town and that is about it. Some wanted to name a local public school after him but they were quickly dispatched.
The whole idea of a Percy serenity circle hypers the miasma within to me.:-O
