In a previous post about sea turtles I posted some pics of our “local” beach. Me and SWMBO basically grew up on the beach. We have seen all kinds of strange things, but the one that always sticks in our minds is the search for a Spanish Galleon which was part of the “1715 Fleet, east coast of Florida”.( http://www.sedwickcoins.com/shipwreck_histories/1715.htm}
Over the past decade there have been triangulation stations built on the beach for positioning sonar equipped vessels in the proximity of the wreck. I have seen this operation take place on three occasions over the past ten years. To date, nothing has been found. If we have a serious hurricane pass close by the shore it will throw everything on the beach, including gold, if any. Of course after any hurricane or Noreaster everybody and his brother is on the beach with a metal detector. Below is a pic of the general area all this activity took place in New Smyrna Beach.
Have a great weekend! B-)
