Well we made the switch to W7 and I guess I'm an old dog, but that's another story.

Anyone have a fix or workaround with using Deed Plotter as an Add In for Office 2010 WORD and W7 OS? 2 weeks ago we were using this just fine on XP Pro with Office 2010 WORD and now it won't load.

Our IT guy has been in contact with Greenbrier and tried all their suggestions even before they mentioned them. He has tried the supposed patch for W7 to no avail. Deed Plotter will not show up under the Add Ins.

What say everyone that may have run into this?

Thanks,
Rob

P.S. I don't know how to use DP outside of WORD. I tried opening it straight up and opening a WP file and DP didn't recognize it?....:-S

To use it inside of Word, you must load deed plotter first then word, otherwise it can't recognize it to use.

Using deed plotter as a stand alone is easy. Open it, and type in your calls in the editor like this
n4w 80
n6e 100

etc.

Then, to see if it closes, click in the white space and you'll see the drawing of it.

Then file, print preview, and zoom into the bottom where the calls are and it will tell you the closure. Typically then I just red X the program as I never save those. Landmen love that program. It will accept lots of different types of measurements from meters to feet to chains, everything but varas.

Kris, are you saying that I need to load DP first or just open it first. Is this a case of Windows7 capability? DP has worked for us for many years without the need to load it on the PC first. Maybe I'm missing something here.....

I don't want to have to type anything in. I've already typed it in WORD and I want to make sure I haven't made any scrivener's errors like typing a N---W instead of a S---E. Things like that. I typically use DP for gross errors and closure checks against CAD and then another set of eyes for "cleanliness"

I just noticed too that DP doesn't like my direct wording from the WP file. If I could just cut and paste into the editor, that would at least get me by for the time being.

This isn't a windows issue as much as it is a "chicken and egg" issue. Word can't recognize to put deed plotter under "Tools" if it isn't there when Office was installed. So, uninstall office, make sure that deed plotter is installed, then re-install office.

I know what you're trying to do, and you can't unless you have them loaded in this manner. You can't copy your calls out and insert them into the editor. You can't open a doc file or docx in your case and have it convert them. The only way is to select the document in word, click tools and deed plotter then convert calls.

You can type them in manually, which is what we did for a few years until I found out about the other way.

Sorry, but I've had the same problem. Uninstall word, then reinstall word and it will recognize deed plotter at that point and allow it to stick it under tools. Watch as you're installing it to make sure you select deed plotter when it comes to that screen.
