I haven't written in cursive in almost half a century (wow - that sounds like I'm old!). I quit trying when I started surveying. When I applied for a driver's license renewal I printed my name on the "Signature" line and was rejected. They told me I had to "write" my name. I said "I did. That is how I write my name." They refused to issue me a license until I provide an illegible scrawl. I have to renew this year, and will print my name. If they require?ÿ cursive I will turn around and walk out the door...
I have printed since 9th grade. Doing manual drafting got me to printing all the time, except for my signature.
Back in '01, my divorce lawyer guessed my occupation at the time by seeing my handwriting. He guessed I was a drafter or had been taught drafting (which I was even though it was mostly digital by '01)
