From the Fort Scott Tribune
County Surveyor Gene Toles' driving horse became untethered this afternoon in front of the courthouse. Something frightened the animal and it started to run pulling the buggy. From National Avenue, the animal sped down Second to Main. It fell on the brick pavement, got up again and at the corner of Main and Second, as it turned onto Main, it fell again and slid 20 feet coming in contact with Mrs. C.C. Crain's horse and buggy in front of the Tribune-Monitor office. Jumping to its feet again the maddened animal rammed Mrs. Crain's buggy, dragging it down Main Street until it reached the north end. The horse was bruised and skinned. It is usually very gentle.
Oh yes, this was 100 years ago !
