or as John would say, $%&*!!## battery backup.
I hooked up to a new battery backup with my computer, and have a problem. I have a similar problem with my surge-protector at home. I have a bank of 10 plug-ins for regular electric outlet plugs, 5 are backed up by the battery, and 5 more are just 'surge-proteted'. But one has the label "Master" and 3 others say "Controlled by Master".
My intuitive interpretation is that maybe I can plug in the main computer into the "master" and the monitors (for instance) into the "Controlled by Master" spots and that maybe when the computer shuts down, the "cbm" spots will be somehow shut down electricity to the monitors. I plugged everything in accordingly, but no matter what I do, the lines plugged in to the "cbm" outlets don't get electricity. I have tried a couple of other things, but I don't seem to get power through those "ports". The manual that came with the battery-backup doesn't address the use of the "cbm" ports.
I'm just using the other 7 outlets, but it kind of sucks that my 10-outlet bb is rendered into a 7-port one. Does anyone know how to properly utilize the "Controlled By Master" plugin spots? Does SWMBO have to come and plug things into them for me? 😉
If you don't know, you can answer the following:

I've seen a few surge strips that are set up in a similar fashion. The rocker switch kills the cbm outlets but not the remaining outlets. This allows you to turn off power to the computer and monitors while leaving network equipment, fax machines, etc. powered.

Rat's, I thought SWMBO might have whipped your ass or something.
Thanks Mr. Ward.
What is this "rocker switch"? Is there probably a switch on my batter-backup? Is the "master" something other than my computer for instance?
My real question is how do I get power through the cbm outlets?
On surge strips it's usually just the switch that turns the strip on and off. Battery backups can be more complicated. What brand & model are you trying to setup?
At my workstation, I am trying to set up a new "Back-UPS 750" APC. @ My home computer I have a surge protector with the same master-controlled outlets, which I have never gotten to work. I have to check on that brand.
Barbara Eden. What a gorgeous woman.
You know, I went out and got dvd's of "Rumpole of the Bailey" strictly for the reason of that saying (SWMBO). I had never seen it before. I figured the program that came up with the saying had to be good.
I'm guessing at the specific model but this one works similar to my Back-UPS NS 1250
Either S&M or a throwback to pre-Civil War conditions.
Battery backedup power strips was not even a minor consideration.

My guess...
I'll admit it. The title conjured images of Fifty Shades of Grey.:-X
Hey Stephen,
Thank you. I will print that out, and see if I can understand it. I can't believe that my user's manual didn't say anything about that. I think I'll relook through it.
