Me: Finished marking the lines. Let me know if you have any questions.
Client: Thank you Scott I will try to make it out there Friday. How do I have the survey, when you finish the document, recorded?
Me: I will mail you the signed/sealed drawing in a few days. You are not required to record it, but you can if you choose.
Client: How do I do that?
Me: Just take the signed/sealed drawing to the Register of Deeds at the court house. There is a fee, not sure how much but about $15
Client: Letter came today, so I bring the sealed envelope to Wexford county?
Me: I sent two or three signed drawings. Take just one to the Wexford County Registar of Deeds office and they will help you with the rest.
Client: So it does not have to be sealed?
Me: All of them I set are sealed or should be. It is a raised/crimped seal.
Client: Oh I thought you meant sealed inside the envelope, lol.
Sometimes it's just easier to do it yourself, so if they want it recorded, I usually go ahead and do it for them and add in the cost of recording (about $21 locally). We have to have a recording cover sheet here in my local county and depending on the type of survey, possibly another document with the owners signatures notarized. I've actually heard people say "I got it signed at the bank, why is it not recorded?" They thought taking it to the bank got it recorded at the courthouse. o.O And, I won't tell you how many times that I've heard "I paid for the survey, you're (any surveyor) supposed to record it" or "You're (any surveyor) supposed to record it, that's the law" which both of those are false.
> Sometimes it's just easier to do it yourself,
I agree, but this was the next county South and the County Seat is at the South limits of the county. Gas is getting to expensive or I am getting to lazy :-S
