It never got spoiled like this until 192k. Cheapest bulk oil and filters for almost the entire lifetime before that. But just because something can last 200k on the minimum of maintenance doesn't mean it will last 400k which is a reasonable goal for some vehicles if you take care of them. At least Toyota's, GM's up to 2007, and some heavy duty trucks.?ÿ

@rick-taylor It really is the unforgivable sin among auto manufacturers. Making the most routine maintenance an inconvenient task is counterproductive for all parties involved. Not only should it be easy to do, but you should also be able to do a clean job of it. I understand that many manufacturers want us to come to the dealership to get our oil changed, but any time I've taken my wife's car in they wind up overfilling the crankcase.

I'm surprised to hear of your similar issue with Motorcraft filters. After years of purchasing Toyota filters for my Toyotas, I just assumed I would buy Motorcraft for Ford... not so anymore!

@drew-r?ÿ

That's the only oil filter I've seen that the gasket wasn't somehow secured in the groove. Not good on a $20+ filter.

I'm in the rust belt and I just oil the heck out of my vehicles. My work truck has 211k miles with 9300 hours works out to 22mph average lifetime speed. So far it's holding up good. It had some rust that had to he repaired in the cab corners, rocker panels and one fender..but in the past it was only oil sprayed every second year by the local Krown dealer who isn't very reputable for doing quality work. The frame is still like new in most places.?ÿ
