ATT and T-Mobile's merger was recently nixed by the Obama administration.
The cry of monopoly was actually a guise for the loss of jobs created by
most mergers. Of course, each company will keep downsizing in a competitive
cell phone market.
Now, a bigger monopoly was recently by the multi-billion deal between Sprint
and LightSquared with the aid of Obama. Sprint is very short of cash and continue to rack up losses. Surveyors well know the fast rate of technology and discontinuation rate of new GPS and phone equipment. For Sprint to take a risk in a multi-year multi-million technology is not impressing their investors. Newer technologies will come and players in the information technology business will wither away. Just ask Rupert Murdoch about losses in the information business.
Those who think they can monopolize the information business will learn a
hard lesson.
