How long has it been since you have attended either a City Commission or County Commission meeting?
Many jobs have come my way over the decades by being on a first name basis with the people serving on these commissions and the fulltime employees they oversee.
Made it back in one piece.?ÿ Bumped into the President of the largest engineering firm in the state and the Chairman of the Board of the second largest cement manufacturing firm in the state while there.?ÿ Have known both of them for years and have done work for both.
I usually have items on the consent agenda - road vacations, acceptance of easements and right of way dedications, a map for approval, an ordinance amendment, or a budget item.?ÿ Occasionally, a Supe will pull an item for discussion.
You're right, talking with fellow attendees in the hallway can be very entertaining, as well as the networking.
I not only know the Supervisors, it's not uncommon to have lunch or a beer (after work hours) with one of them at some point during the week.
