Often I’m too quick to get angry about those things that happen like that, when I should be looking for the roses to smell.
Who knows, maybe you could have been involved in an accident or something if the truck hadn’t broke.

Rich folk problems is what I call these things. If you were dirt poor and barely getting by none of the things you listed would be a problem. You only have breakdowns if you have stuff that can break down. Mops, brooms and shovels don’t breakdown. If you own one vehicle you can only have one needing repair. If you own 12 vehicles there is probably some level of repair needed on all of them at any given moment. You don’t worry about the hogs getting out if you own no hogs. You don’t worry about repairing the fence unless it’s your fence. You don’t worry about replacing the plumbing unless it’s your house. You only get to gripe about property taxes being too high if you have property that is being assessed property taxes. You only get to gripe about income taxes being too high if you have a significant income. You don’t worry about dusting the chandelier properly and regularly unless you have a chandelier and a place to hang it.

I’d been in a truck rolling down I-45 from Buffalo and seen that happen. Looked out the passenger side-view mirror and saw the rear tire sticking out past the rear quarter panel at about a tire’s width. Boss pulled the truck over just in time. Really lucked out on that one, not sure what would have happened if you lose a rear tire at 65mph hauling a goose neck with a huge Case wobble stick on the trailer, don’t think I want to know.

Saw someone bring in a dropped robot, not too long ago. Stuck there in the room while registered went through the usual blood pressure limit check and the crew member hopelessly explaining what happened.

I had an axle to run out on me in a 63 Impala hardtop.
When it sounded like I had a trunk full of armadillos slam dancin took only a few seconds to shut down and get out of traffic.
Did not travel that far as it was rubbin on the fender and cut raised white letters from the superwide 50s.
It did catch fire and I put that out with a handfull of blue cheer wash powder.
That was the last heat ring axle setup I drove.

Closest thing to that for me was when a spindle broke releasing a wheel from a heavily loaded stock trailer. That sucker shot right past me about the same time I heard the gawdawful racket of the rear of the trailer dragging on the pavement and I looked back to see more sparks than a grinding wheel can ever make. The fortunate thing was that I wasn’t meeting someone at the time. I would not want to know what could happen when a wheel hits an oncoming vehicle…….somewhere.

My buddy Harold and I were traveling North on Hwy 25 heading toward Starkville Mississippi when I saw a tire come off a van about a quarter mile up ahead, traveling our way. It’s a 4 lane highway with a wide open median. The closer the tire got to us I could see it was fleet size. That joker was hopping and traveling at a high rate of speed. The van was dragging butt heading South raining sparks like the 4th of July. But keep it’s course without slowing down. I kept my eye on that tire just knowing it was going to come through out windshield. It crossed our lane not very far in front of us. We could see it was a 20 inch heavy duty tire. Once it was behind us I stopped on the shoulder watching it steady traveling South. We saw the van stop on the South bound shoulder just to see the tire cross the median, hop the highway and t bone the van. Sounded like a bomb rocking the van knocking the side windows out. The driver got out looking at the damage with a phone in his hand. We went on. The whole scene was at least a half of mile. I just glade no one was hurt. But even more pleased that tire didn’t come through the windshield.

I have never had any experience with the main axle nut failing. There should be 2 of them with a lock washer between on a Dana 70. Improper tightening with a chisel instead of the correct socket may cause the nuts to deform.

I would replace the nuts and washer on BOTH sides.

I think I had an “Automatic bowel Reaction”.
I had a mechanic fix my brakes about 2 wks before. He’s a friend of mine, and all. He TOLD me he recommended REPLACING main Axle nuts. I did not pay alot of attention to him. I was busy. Javad on my mind. Trying to figure that thing out. It’s like being in a Wal-Mart, Far Far from home, and it is NOT arranged like the one in your home town. And, it has some stuff you have NEVER seen.

So, we unloaded the ATV, carried the Javad base to a nearby hiltop. Set it all up, and went to work. Tried to localize. I MISSED one step. I did not get it. I brought the Coords on the thumb drive into it, as though they were on SPC. NOT a local unknown datum.

So, I continued on, Shot a bunch of shots. Had the tow truck come get my truck.
Had the wife and Big help (Who now has another job, doing odd jobs for local farmers, They love him, and the pay is a bit better) So, here is Big Help, and wife coming to get me. Wife parks and calls me. Forgets and leaves the lights on. Kills the battery.
Big help used the ATV to jump the van, and got it going again.
The atv BARELY runs, because the last place I got gas, gave me about 25% water in their gas. I had parked it earlier, because it runs so poor.
So, here is the VAN at the base site:
I had forgotten that the refrigerator had gone out last wk. And, was on the TILT trailer. So, Big help got the feed trailer (which does not tilt) and got me home. We went to church, (This was last Wednesday). I got another refridgerator, but it is not a big and nice as the one that’s out. Looks like the big one will be fixable.
Thursday morning, Shawn Billings quickly put things right in the Javad LS. Now it is localized properly.
NOW I get to look at the data. Adjoining deed were written off the SAME 40 cor, BUT different locations for it. Gap in deeds of some 30 feet!
Got to go get more deeds.
Life is like this. I am a very grateful and happy man. A happy wife, and very wonderful kids.
Life could not be better!
O, and we found that the many of these old trucks were crushed and sent to China. So, getting another rear end, is a bit hard. Then I remembered a friend and client in Louisiana. He is looking for one.
It’s a 1993 Dodge 4×4 diesel, with Pickup wide dually. 4:10 gears, positrack. I like positrack! If you know where I can get one. Changing the 3rd member is real hard. So, it would be better if I did not have to do that.

Never a dull moment, glad to hear Shawn Billings got your new Javad all dialed in for you, he’s the tops!

Sorry to hear about your vehicle’s mechanical issues, I just spent $1300 on my 2007 F150 Super Crew Brake system, 100% Brake system replacement, ouch, that hurt, but the old F150 will run for another 75K miles, and I don’t have any monthly truck payments, lol

Reminds me of a time I was at hunting camp and seven or eight trucks were parked around, including mine. One of the guys walks straight up to me and asked if I had some duct tape. I said “Yes, but how did you know to ask me?” He said jokingly, “People who drive junk always have duct tape”. I couldn’t argue with him, but I had never thought about it that way.
