TSC3 Battery Pack Question
I have a TSC3 that I am getting ready to sell. It powers on fine but it looks like the rechargeable battery pack needs to be replaced. I am finding non-trimble replacement battery packs for a third the price of a Trimble brand. Has anyone used these? How about getting the original re-celled at a place like Battery Plus. Is that a possibility?

I would suggest sticking with the OEM battery pack. Years ago I took the battery from my Carlson data collector to Batteries Plus to have it recelled and it never again worked like it used to. When you buy aftermarket equipment parts, you usually end up with problems.

I would not go with cut rate non OEM battery packs. While they are unlikely to damage your equipment they typically use cells that are of low quality and won’t last more than a few cycles. Recelling by a quality provider is just as cheap and far more satisfactory.

Interesting that ths came up today. Just last Friday we tried to use an old (but good condition) TSC3 to run a second total station on a site. Battery totally dead. Plugged in it says full, then unplug and DC shuts down.
I had looked online and saw a wide range of prices, good to know to avoid the cheap ones.

Li-ion batteries are pretty robust and will endure all sorts of abuse, but one thing they don’t like is to be allowed to go totally and completely dead. When that happens certain internal chemical changes occur and they can’t take a charge.
