TSC-2 Conumdrum
Posted by true-corner on April 28, 2020 at 11:40 pmYesterday I was able to download my TSC-2 files through Trimble’s Data Transfer program. Well my computer did a Windows 10 upgrade and now it won’t recognize the TSC-2 either with Activesync or the nine pin Com ports. Data Transfer will recognize the 4700’s and 5800’s but not the TSC-2. Anybody know what’s going on?

I finally dumped the windows mobile platform. Check Juniper systems website or a basic google search for steps to fix this.

Had the same problem with my TSC2. Upgraded to a TSC3, same problem. I just upload and download now using a flash drive.

I seem to have the same problem with my TSC-3, and a spare. Definately get the impression windows update has broken it. GRRR….

With a TSC-3 it ‘ought’ to be possible to use wifi.
Bluetooth has worked well for me in the past.
Why accept going backwards?
Pendrive works, but it is a two stage process, and the windows file explorer u.i. sucks – so for me its a bad kludge / work around.
We can do better than that…

So Microsoft wont support windows mobile any more in windows 10, nothing trimble can do about it….. There is a registry tweak your Trimble dealer can tell you about if you have admin privileges on your co.puter but it will reset on every windows update. I am a public servant so I just gave up and jump drive my files from tsc3 to computer. I suggest yall do the same.

Negatory on that – I have the registry hack applied, and it has stayed on during this latest update.
The current problem is something new.

I bought a cheap bluetooth dongle for my pc – and it works just fine – I can transfer files directly with explorer again.

Based on some of the comments, I went the USB thumbdrive route and it worked fine. Guess I’ll use that from here on out until I have some time to explore further but right now I’m in the middle of a job. Thanks for the comments, they helped.

Just bought a Bluetooth dongle to try downloading files. Anything special to do to activate it?

It is pretty much plug and play.
Once you have the drivers installed make sure your computer is ‘visible’.
If you are using Windows Mobile Device Centre on your computer, make sure it is set to ‘allow bluetooth connections’.
On the controller, in windows use the bluetooth functions to search for new devices.
Connect to your computer and the controller should show up in Explorer.
I dont bother with the ‘setup your device’ option in WMDC.

USB transfer is the best way to get data out of legacy (Windows Mobile) data collectors. It’s not a Trimble problem – their developers were trying to keep up with the ridiculous number of Windows 10 updates through the registry hack, but from what I understand it got to be too much of a moving target and a royal pain in the rear.
Microsoft had told vendors that it would be releasing a mobile version of 10, and was supposed to support ActiveSync for legacy users, but went back on both of those decisions…causing no small amount of grief among customers and dealers alike.
