Trimble Vision

I used an S6 with the Vision function and long range reflectorless at my previous employer for asbuilts of oil & gas facilities. It worked well, but the image quality on a TSC3 was lacking and the response on zoom in/out was often sluggish. Hopefully it’s been improved in those areas, and a larger screen (tablet, maybe the TSC7) would be useful. The pointing accuracy was quite good, and it was nice not to have to be glued to the scope when making reflectorless shots.

Thanks. I’m most interested in the photogrammetric mapping feature of the Vision thing right now. Did you have occasion to use that?

My suggestion would be that you get your Trimble rep to come out with one and run a thorough, real world test on it. How well it works and how practical it is are functions of what your expectations are and what kind of work you envision using it for.

Vendor demos are one thing. Real world testimonials are another.

No, I don’t know if that S6/Access combo had that capability. Photogrammetric mapping with a TS wasn’t on the radar there.

I just like being able to verify what my S6 is locked on to using the Vision feature before I store a shot using a passive prism. I’d suspect the photogrammetry potential is about on par with the scanning function of the instrument, which is to say it has a ‘scanning’ function but is definitely not a scanner.

I have an s7, which I love. I use the Trimble vision constantly.

lets face it, a robot is used when obstructions are involved which prohibit gnss surveying. Those same obstructions, trees and buildings, cause loss of lock when being tracked by a robot. 

When I lose lock, on my TSC3, hit favorites, video; and I see what the robot sees. Tap on the screen and the robot turns to it. I can usually make out my vest or the multitrack prism. 

I can’t imagine robotic surveying without Trimble vision.
